What are you Reading? ~ March 23, 2016

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finish reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Here's my list:

I'm currently reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling. Actually, I've just started, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to love it! ;)

I'm also listening to The House of Closed Doors by Jane Steen. I decided to try listening to an audiobook while running. So far, so good. Although, I've noticed my pace is a little slower. I'm enjoying the story, though!

I recently finished Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. It was really good, but I didn't cry like I thought I would. Maybe, because I was expecting to, or maybe because I figured out what was going to happen. But I really liked the story. I laughed a lot more than I thought I would! It was also a very interesting topic, and good to see both sides of the issue.

I also finished reading Starflight by Melissa Landers. I loved this! It was just plain fun! Loved Solara and Doran, and the crew of the Banshee. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, Starfall!

What's next? I'm not sure! I'll let you know!

  1. Quite the line up you have there. Nice way to slip in an audio story.
Interesting about your emotional reaction to Me Before You. I guess when you expect it that can change things. I want to read Starflight eventually, but I have her other series first.

    1. Hi, Sophia Rose! Melissa Landers was a new author to me. Now that I've read Starflight I want to read her other series! When you get a chance to read them, you'll have to let me know how they are!

  2. I love listening to audiobooks when I'm running or walking. If the story's truly vivid I can walk/run past a spot months later and remember what happened in the story I was listening to at the time. There's a scene in one of the Outlander books that will forever be associated with a particular stretch of my favorite trail.

Anyway, all that to say thanks for listening to my book, and also that for once I've read most of the books on a list. Loved the Harry Potter books, but I had mixed feelings about Me Before You and have no interest in reading the sequel.

    1. Hi, Jane! Wow! Thanks for stopping by! I love Nell and her independent spirit! I get so frustrated with the social rules and laws of the time. Unwed pregnant women had so little choices. I'm also enjoying the mysteries happening at the farm! I can't wait to see what's going to happen!

Yes, I have mixed feelings about Me Before You also, and, like you, I'm not planning on reading the sequel.

  3. Ha, yes...the story was born when I saw an old photo of the Poor Farm that used to exist in our town, and realized that an unmarried mother would make a great heroine for a suspense novel. I've had people approach me (after reading the novel) to say that they were born to an unmarried mother in the 50s and 60s, and even then this was socially unacceptable and had huge consequences.

And I just read Kate Morton's The Lake House and Eve Chase's Black Rabbit Hall (inspired, I would guess, by the Morton book) which both touch on the subject (to say more would be spoilerish). I'm glad we live in a time when a woman can keep her baby and be proud of her choices. We tend to think of the "olden days" as a time when women "behaved themselves", but the truth is that accidental pregnancies were far more common than today (yay contraception!).

    1. That's really cool, Jane! It's interesting to see where you got your inspiration. I would love to see the picture of the Poor Farm. Yes, "We've come a long way, baby!" (dating me a bit!) Lol! And I'm so glad!

I've seen The Lake House, but haven't read it. I might have to add it to my TBR list. I'll check out Black Rabbit Hall, too. Thanks!

  4. It's for moments such as these that I keep Pinterest boards... https://www.pinterest.com/janesteen/the-house-of-closed-doors/

Although that one doesn't have much on it. I really began collecting images while I was working on the sequel, Eternal Deception. Lots of unbelievably beautiful dresses!

    1. Thanks, Kelsey! I'm really enjoying it! I haven't had much time to read since Wednesday, but I'm hoping to find some time today! I can see how it's going to be hard to pick a favorite! Thanks for stopping by! Sorry for the delayed reply!
