This has been so encouraging to me to continue writing about these characters. I am currently finishing chapter 10 of "Mr. Bingley: A Pride and Prejudice Variation" which tells the story of how Bingley and Jane finally reach their happily ever after - maybe! Then it's on to the good (or should I say "bad") Colonel Fitzwilliam who is traversing his own road to true love. Poor man! He just doesn't get women even though he thinks he has us all figured out. His road is not only rocky - it's filled with holes, canyons maybe. Oh well. Colonel Fitzwilliam seems to have to learn things the hard way. Bingley is not doing much better in his own journey. Men!!!

Thank you again, Candy, for your superb skills as hostess. Some day, some one will decide it's time for a new dramatisation, probably when I'm even older and greyer than I already am. With the whole "recasting P & P" thing still fresh in my mind, I was half on the look out for someone to cast as Wickham. The only name I could come up with was Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) but at 45, (though he doesn't look it) he's probably a bit too old.

Joy, if you Google for images of him, you'll se what I mean. Though I like your suggestions about Emilia Clarke and Rose Leslie. Well, I think we have got almost all important roles for new P&P adaptation (except for Wickham, but I don't care about who would play him), so only a little left to do - to find lots of money to produce this new adaptation and convince chosen actors/actresses to participate. Any ideas how we could do it?:)oloorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13570265161694455143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6650768524127186637.post-78535546511331641822014-06-01T10:41:25.292-07:002014-06-01T10:41:25.292-07:00Oloore and Anji, I thank you both for giving this ...Oloore and Anji, I thank you both for giving this such thought. Charles Dance would indeed make a good older, not-nice character. He does Tywin Lannister so well. Natalie Dormer's character in the aforementioned series (Margaery Tyrell) is sometimes playful, arch and impertinent but also rather sly and manipulative. I could see her more easily as Caroline Bingley. I didn't see her portrayal of Anne Boleyn in The Tudors, though.

Another couple of GoT alumni occurred to me as possibilities for Elizabeth before I saw oloore's post. Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) plays her role in a blonde wig but is naturally brunette and Rose Leslie (Ygritte) is redheaded but could go down the Jennifer Ehle route and wear a wig if we want our Lizzie to be dark haired. Both play strong willed characters in the series.

One possibility just sprang to mind for Mr. Bingley. How about Russell Tovey? He's good in everything he does and featured with Aiden Turner in Being Human. To me, he has a slightly gawky look about him that fits quite well with my idea of Bingley.

Joy, I like your idea! Loki as Darcy - there's an image to conjure with. Now you've got me going through the list of actors from the Marvel Universe in my mind, thinking who they could play in our new dramatisation of P & P. I'll have a think about that and maybe get back to you.Anjihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00580018261533290062noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6650768524127186637.post-1024611431940237192014-05-31T07:36:00.756-07:002014-05-31T07:36:00.756-07:00If I were to look for a great actor to play an old...If I were to look for a great actor to play an older not nice male character (particularly, clever intelligent powerful coldhearted) I would choose Charles Dance. I like Sean Connery to play nice guys, and as for Anthony Hopkins (although he is good at everything) I would also like to see him play someone positive:) If your not nice male character was not old, I would recommend already mentioned David Oakes, because he is good at playing charming half crazy baddies.
As for Lizzy, that would be more tricky:) Jenniffer Ehle in pair with Colin Firth has become iconic Lizzy for me, so I will hardly be objective if I were to look for new Elizabeth Bennet. But just now absolutely crazy idea visited me:) I think it could be fun to see Natalie Dormer try being Lizzy. Natalie has that playfulness, archness and impertinence that every Lizzy Bennet should possess, and Natalie will look good next to Tom Hiddlestone;) What would you say?
If you were a producer of new P&P series, whom you would like to play leading roles?
oloorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13570265161694455143noreply@blogger.com
