The Viscount’s Vow By Collette Cameron ~ My Review

The Viscount’s Vow by Collette Cameron

Publication Date: Expected to be released on September 4th, 2013
Publisher: Soul Mate
Publishing E-book: 430 pages
Received: e-copy from the author
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I loved this! I was really excited to hear that Collette Cameron’s second book The Viscount’s Vow was coming out, and I couldn’t wait to read it! And just like the first, once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down! There’s some mystery and a lot of action in this Regency Romance!

The Viscount’s Vow begins two years before the events in Highlander’s Hope, so it is very much a stand alone. In this story, we find out how Vangie and Ian meet. Vangie (Yvette’s cousin from HH) is the daughter of a Baronet, and she is part Romani Gypsy.

Ian has come to London to avenge his brother’s death, and he fully blames Evangelina Caruthers (Vangie) for being the cause for both his brother’s and his father’s deaths. He plans to expose her for the harlot that she is! But when the opportunity arrives, and he’s caught in a compromising position with Vangie, he can’t go through with it, and he must marry her instead.

Ian quickly learns Vangie is not the promiscuous tart he thinks she is, but a spirited, generous, forgiving woman, who just happens to be extremely good at throwing a dagger! Soon he begins falling in love with her. They have more than a few obstacles to overcome, and just when things are looking up for them, something happens to make Vangie think Ian has betrayed her. She runs off with her gypsy family, and Ian must prove himself trustworthy again.

I like Vangie’s backbone - her willingness to stand up for herself! First, she refuses to marry Ian. Then she is willing to kill for him! At the same time, she's a little naive. In London, she had no idea of the reputation she had as a trollop.

With highwaymen, gypsies and an evil-stepmother -- heartache, betrayal and smoldering romance, The Viscount’s Vow is fast paced and action packed all the way to the end!

Disclaimer: I received an e-copy of the book from the author.

LOVE AT FIRST SLIGHT by J. Marie Croft ~ Cover Reveal!!

Hey Everyone!! Today, I'm happy to be part of the Love at First Slight Cover Reveal!!

Wow! Isn't the cover beautiful! I love it!

About the Book:

“It may not be universally acknowledged, but the unvarnished truth is that a young widow in possession of a good fortune is not necessarily in want of another husband.”

In this humorous, topsy-turvy Pride & Prejudice variation, all the gender roles are reversed. It is Mr. Bennet’s greatest wish to see his five sons advantageously married. When the haughty Miss Elizabeth Darcy comes to Netherfield with the Widow Devonport nee Bingley, speculation—and prejudice—runs rampant.

William Bennet, a reluctant and irreverent future reverend, catches Miss Darcy’s eye even though he is beneath her station. However, his opinion of her was fixed when she slighted him at the Meryton Assembly. As her ardour grows, so does his disdain, and when she fully expects to receive an offer of marriage, he gives her something else entirely ….

Genre: Fiction | Romance | Historical | Regency | Jane Austen Sequel

Publication Date: October 1, 2013

About the Author:

J. Marie Croft, a Nova Scotia resident and avid reader all her life, discovered Jane Austen's works later than others but made up for lost time by devouring the six novels and as many adaptations and sequels as she could find. In the midst of reading prodigious amounts of Austen-based fan-fiction, she realized, "Hey, I can do that." In her spare time, when not working at a music school or on a wooded trail enjoying her geocaching hobby, she listens to the voices in her head and captures their thoughts and words in writing. Her stories are light-hearted; and her motto is Miss Austen's own quote, "Let other pens dwell on guilt and misery." J. Marie Croft is a member of the Jane Austen Society of North America (Canada) and admits to being "excessively attentive" to the 1995 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. Atone: A Fairytale by Jessica Grey ~ My review

Atone: A Fairytale by Jessica Grey

Publication Date: July 8, 2013
Publisher: Tall House Books
E-book: 192 pages
Received: e-copy from the author
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

“When you are with your true love you make your own magic.”

I loved this story! Atone: A Fairytale is a modern day Beauty and the Beast retelling set in Los Angeles. I love Jessica Grey’s writing style, her voice, and the magical way she has when telling a tale.

Grey’s characters from Awake are back for another adventure! It’s been two years since Lilia was freed from the sleeping spell she was under. And the girls have been living pretty normal lives. Until the day, Becca get a rather odd message to check up on their old boss, Nicholas. When she gets to his house, she finds out that Nicholas has been turned into a beast by some old magic linked to a mirror. It’s up to Becca to figure out how to break the curse and return him to his human form. One big problem is that he doesn’t want her help, and she really doesn’t want to help him! They’ve never gotten along, so, working together is not going to be easy.

Like in Beauty and the Beast, Nicholas, in his human form, is a self-centered, spoilt, and well, extremely handsome man, who has to learn to love someone else more than himself and be willing to give everything for that person. But in Atone, Becca also has a few lessons to learn. I really like that! Becca is not the perfect “Belle” that everyone loves!

Once again, I love the creative way Grey tells a story. With colorful spells that weave and pulse, shimmer and shine - she brings her story to life! I highly recommend reading Atone: A Fairytale! Although, Atone is the second book of the series, I feel it can stand alone. But I would read Awake: A Fairytale because it's so good! You can read my review for Awake here.

W... W... W... Wednesdays ~ August 28, 2013

W... W... W... Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should be Reading. To play along, just answer the following questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll be reading next?

What am I currently reading?  I am currently reading Lying to Meet You by Anna Garner. I've pretty much just started. So, I don't really know yet...but it seems good!

What did I recently finish reading?  I finished two books this week, The Viscount's Vow by Collette Cameron. It was fantastic! Action packed! And, Echoes of Pemberley by Cynthia Ingram Hensley. I really enjoyed it too, and I'm looking forward to reading the sequel, The Heart Does Whisper.

What do I think I'll be reading next? There's a couple of books I'd like to read to finish off the August TBR Read-a-thon I'm doing. So, maybe, Once Upon a Darkness by Aria Kane. This is a short story, and not one of my normal reads - a zombie story! And Faking it by Cora Carmack. Both of these are fun reads for me. I also have some sewing I would like to get done, so, I'm not sure...

What are you reading?

Only a Heatbeat Away by P.O. Dixon ~ Review and GIVEAWAY

Only a Heartbeat Away: Pride and Prejudice Novella by P.O. Dixon

Publication Date: August 1, 2013
Publisher: P.O. Dixon
E-book: 155 pages
Received:  e-copy from the author
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Once again, P.O. Dixon delights us with another lovely variation of Pride and Prejudice in her new book Only a Heartbeat Away! I really enjoyed reading it!

What if Elizabeth didn’t go to the Meryton Assembly? And she doesn’t meet Darcy there. What if she had met Miss Georgiana Darcy the summer before when she toured Pemberley with her Aunt and Uncle Gardiners? These are some of the interesting twists you’ll find in Only a Heartbeat Away!

Elizabeth and Georgiana began corresponding after meeting at Pemberley, and they quickly become friends. While Elizabeth is in London visiting the Gardiners, Georgiana invites her be her guest at a few balls. This is where Elizabeth and Darcy first meet. Noting that Darcy and Elizabeth seem well suited for each other, Georgiana endeavors to make sure their paths cross often.

Darcy leaves Netherfield the morning after the Assembly (which was enough time for him to form an opinion of the Bennets). Without Darcy there, to discourage Bingley from Jane, Bingley and Jane soon become engaged. When Lydia runs off with Wickham, bringing shame to the Bennet family, Jane breaks her engagement with Bingley. She cannot bear to sully the Bingley name with her own. Sweet, sweet Jane.

As always, I loved Darcy’s second proposal to Elizabeth! It warmed my heart! I also liked that Georgiana and Elizabeth are friends first. I didn't really like that Jane and Elizabeth were given a certain amount of time to find a husband or one of them would have to marry a man of Mr. Bennet's choice. Of course, that does make the story more interesting, doesn't it! ;D

If you love Pride and Prejudice variations, I think you’ll enjoy Only a Heartbeat Away: Pride and Prejudice Novella!
