What Are You Reading? ~ Feb. 14, 2018

Happy Valentine's Day, Friends!

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finish reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Here's my list:

I've started reading Prairie Fires by Caroline Fraser. I've read a few biographies about Laura Ingalls Wilder, but it's been many years. I'm excited to dig into this one! I don't think I'll read it quickly so I may put it aside to read a novel here and there. It may even get me in the mood to read the Little House on the Prairie series again (for the umpteenth time)!

I recently finished reading Conceit & Concealment by Abigail Reynolds. I LOVED it! What an adventure! Elizabeth is very brave in this story, and I loved the altered history twist! 5 stars!

What's next? I'm not sure, maybe The Young Elites by Marie Lu.

What Are You Reading? ~ January 17, 2018

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finish reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Here's my list:

I'm currently reading The Edge of Everything by Jeff Giles. It's good so far, but I'm only about a quarter through. I got this in a YA Quarterly book subscription box. I'm not sure if I would have picked it out for myself.

I recently finished rereading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling. I was so into it that I would steal every moment I could to read it. So much so that I didn't want to stop to put this post together last week! LOL! I also had major withdraws for a couple of days after I finished it. I was sad that it was over and cranky, especially the day after, and I had no desire to read anything else for a few days. Have you ever experience book withdraw before?

A few days later, I did pick up and finish Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by John Tiffany, Jack Thorne, and J.K Rowling.  It was good, but not the same.

What's next? I'm not sure. I'm thinking about reading Conceit and Concealment by Abigail Reynolds. I've been pulling books I want to read in 2018 off my shelves and making a physical TBR pile. I still need to put together my 2018 read challenge page and set up new progress bars on the sidebar, but I know what I want to get done this year ...I think! Lol!

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, & Jodi Meadows ~ My Review

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, & Jodi Meadows

Publication Date: June 7th, 2016

Publisher: Harper Teen
Pages: 491
Received: Purchased my own copy.
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Book Blurb:

The comical, fantastical, romantical, (not) entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey. In My Lady Jane, coauthors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows have created a one-of-a-kind fantasy in the tradition of The Princess Bride, featuring a reluctant king, an even more reluctant queen, a noble steed, and only a passing resemblance to actual history—because sometimes history needs a little help.

At sixteen, Lady Jane Grey is about to be married off to a stranger and caught up in a conspiracy to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But those trifling problems aren’t for Jane to worry about. Jane is about to become the Queen of England.

My favorite kind of stories are “What if” stories. You know, if you stopped a story at a certain point and changed it a little and the story goes off in a different direction. So, My Lady Jane is like that. Authors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows took a few liberties and revised history a little to bring us this humorous, exciting and adventurous tale!

We all know the story of King Henry the Eighth, married six times, and father of Mary, Elizabeth, and Edward. And after his death, Edward became king at age nine and unfortunately died at the age of 16 and then his cousin Lady Jane Grey became Queen for nine days before she lost her head and Mary became Queen. But what if there were people, during that time in history, that had the ability to change into an animal? That could change things a bit, don't you think? ;)

Edward and Jane have always wanted to be an Edian; a person who can transform into an animal. (Edwards father King Henry VIII could turn into a lion!) Try as they might, they showed no sign of the ability. Not everyone loves the Edians as much as Edward and Jane. There were a few Verities (people who could not change) who did not care for them and didn’t want them around.

As the story begins, Edward is dying, and he needs to name a successor to his crown. His sister Mary hated Edians and would band them, and Edward didn’t know how Elizabeth felt about them. But he was aware that Jane loved them and would protect them. So, he named Jane his successor and arranged for her to marry Gifford Dudley.

Jane doesn’t want to get married. Ever. And if she had to marry someone, she hoped to marry Edward because at least they were friends. But Edward is dying, and he has asked her to marry Gifford. What she doesn’t know, is that her new husband is a horse!

Soon, Jane is Queen, and Mary’s troops are marching into London to take the throne. What will Jane do?

My Lady Jane was so much fun to read! I loved the Edian twist to it! I also loved the way the narrators would talk to the reader, and the modern metaphors used throughout the story! Plus, the excitement and adventures they had trying to take the kingdom back! Throw in a couple of sweet romances, and you have a wonderful story!

My favorite characters: Edward, Jane, Gifford, Gracie, and Gran.

5 stars!

What Are You Reading? ~ September 28, 2016

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finish reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Here's my list:

I've just started  The Dead & the Gone (Last Survivors, Bk 2) by Susan Beth Pfeffer. I'm excited to read this because I loved book one of the series. Hopefully, this will be just as good. The same catastrophic event, different town, different people.

I didn't get much reading done in A Clash of Kings (A Song of Fire and Ice, Bk 2) by George R.R. Martin this week. I think I read one chapter.

I finished reading Life as We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer and LOVED it! I really like survivalist stories, so it makes sense that I would love this. It makes me want to start stockpiling food! I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

I also finished reading My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows. It was really good! I loved this alternative history with a little paranormal thrown into the mix. I'll have a review up soon!

What's next? Unless I need a break, I'm planning on reading the next in the Last Survivors series, This World We Live In (Bk 3) by Susan Beth Pfeffer.

What are you Reading? is my weekly Wednesday meme! You are welcome to join me, just answer the following questions:

  • What do you plan on reading next?

What am I currently reading? I'm currently reading Lucky 13: Matchmaking and Misunderstandings by Cat Gardiner. I've just started it, but it looks really cute and fun! It's a holiday, Pride and Prejudice, Romantic Comedy.

What did I recently finish reading? Since my last What are you Reading? post (which I haven't been very good at posting!), I've finished three books:

The Most Unsuitable Wife (The Kincaids Book 1) by Caroline Clemmons.

Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin

Paper Towns by John Green

I enjoyed all three!

What do I plan on reading next? I need to work on completing my challenges for this year, so I might read something for my Austenesque TBR Challenge. :)

What are you Reading? ~ November 18, 2015

What are you Reading? is my weekly Wednesday meme! You are welcome to join me, just answer the following questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you plan on reading next?

Well, Wednesday's almost over, but I wanted to get this posted. It's been another busy day, but I'm happy to say things or finally getting organized after our big move! Yay! And I'm loving the new house! I haven't posted a What are you Reading? post since before we move, so here's what I've read since then:

What am I currently reading? I am currently reading Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin. I'm only a chapter or two into it, but it's good so far. It does creep me out a bit to even imagine that Hilter won the war!! This was the book that came in my Uppercase YA novel subscription box this month. It was my first box, and I was totally happy with this month's selection! It was one I was interested in reading, so that's good!
What did I recently finish reading? I finished reading Grave Mercy: His Fair Assassin, Book I by Robin LaFevers. It was really good! I read this during the move, but I wish I had waited until later. I was so tired that I was having trouble engaging in the story.  I could never stay awake long enough to get absorbed into it.
