Monthly Wrap-Up - August 2020

Hello, my friends! Well, it's been a month since I posted a "What Are You Reading?" post, and I joked the last time that I might as well post a "Monthly Wrap-Up" instead. Haha, so that's what I'm doing! I was in a gigantic reading slump all summer. I think it might be over - fingers crossed!

Here's what I read in August:

Serious Moonlight*
by Jenn Bennett - I finally finished this after starting back in February. I can't remember why I set it aside then, but I did pick it back up. It was okay, but it just never grabbed me. Maybe I still wasn't in the mood for it.

Vassa in the Night*
by Sarah Porter - I received this book a couple of years ago in a YA book subscription box and decided to give it a try.  This story is so bizarre and dark. Like Alice going down the rabbit hole, Vassa gets caught in an odd and dangerous convenience store. The story kept drawing me in; I had to find out what happens to Vassa and her magical doll! Although strange, I really enjoyed it!

The Woman in the Window*
by A.J. Finn - I loved this suspense/thriller! Anna Fox is stuck in her house; she's an agoraphobic who has panic attacks every time she steps out of her home. That in itself is interesting, add in that she sees something she shouldn't, and it's gripping! I liked how you weren't sure what was real and what was Anna's imagination. Did she really see what she thought she did? Also, I loved all the Hitchcock and old movie references!

Eleven*
by Patricia Reilly Giff - This is a great middle-grade mystery about a boy who finds a newspaper clipping of a missing boy in the attic, and it's him! Now he has to figure out who he is and who are the people he's living with.

Audiobooks

The Scarlet Letter*
by Nathaniel Hawthorne. I'm glad I listened to this one. It's was a little too wordy for me, I would have never gotten through it otherwise! It's an interesting look into the Puritan life and early America - also how guilt can slowly eat at you.

The Aussie Next Door*
by Stefani London - This was a fun romantic comedy to listen to! The narrator, Summer Morton (no relation, lol), did a fantastic job with the character voices!

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix*
by J.K Rowling - Listening to this on a long drive was wonderful! It's my favorite of the Harry Potter books.

I took a long road trip to Montana to visit a friend. It was so nice to get away and see another part of the country! We had planned to go hiking in Glacier Park and had reservations at a hotel there, but our plans where canceled due to COVID. Still, we had a good time hanging out at her house. We did a short hike and some kayaking. It was so beautiful!

So, what was your August like? Did you get to venture out? As always, let me know what you are reading! It's a great way to find new books! Thanks! I hope you all are doing well!

What Are You Reading? ~ Feb. 26, 2020

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Happy Wednesday, my friends! I hope you've had a great week! I've been pretty busy, but I still found time to read! Yay!

Current Read

I'm currently reading Daisy Jones & the Six* by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It's written like an interview, as the members of the band and Daisy recall the past. I love the time period. Everyone seems so free, but that freedom can be a little destructive too.  Drugs, sex, and rock-n-roll!

Recently Finished

I finished re-reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince* by J.K. Rowlings.  Again, I loved it! :)

I also re-read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows* by J.K. Rowlings. I couldn't help it. I had to finish the series. It's so good!! Now, I'm sad it's over. Haha!

What's next?

I'm thinking about something Austenesque, like Letters From the Heart* by Kay Bea. I've heard good things about this one!

I also read through chapter 10 in The Jane Austen Project* by Kathleen A. Flynn for my JASNA reading group that met last Saturday. I think I'm enjoying it more on this second read! And all the ladies and gentleman in the group are loving it too!

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Happy Wednesday, friends! I hope you all had a fantastic reading week!

Current Read

I'm currently re-reading Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix* by JK Rowlings. I'm about halfway through, so that's like a whole book, right? Haha! It's fabulous as always!

Recently Finished

I finished The War Outside* by Monica Hesse. It was a great book. I never really thought about the internment camps of WWII much before. I mean, I knew it happen and thought it was terrible, but to learn more about it and see it from a teenage girl's eyes - it was interesting. And I never knew they had German-Americans and Japanese-Americans together at the same camp. It was very thought-provoking, and sad really. ~ 4 stars.

What's next?

I really need to re-read The Jane Austen Project* for the reading group! Yikes! We meet this Saturday. Fortunately, we are only discussing the first ten chapters.

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Current Read

I'm a little over halfway through Foul is Fair* by Hannah Capin. I can't really say how it's going. I love a good revenge story, but I'm not sure I like how Jade is going about it. Maybe as I read on, there will be a twist I didn't see coming.

Recently Finished

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban* by J.K. Rowling. I don't need to say anything here! It's just so good! :)

What's next?

I'll probably start Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire* by J.K. Rowling. :)

It looks like I've come back to my usual reading speed! Well, it was a great start to the new year! I'm ahead on my Goodreads reading challenge now. :) I still need to set up my Jane Austenesque Lovers TBR Challenge 2020 with Sophia Rose on Goodreads!

I hope you've had a good week! Be sure to share what you've been reading! Or any reading challenges you are doing this year.

What Are You Reading? ~ Jan. 15, 2020

Happy Wednesday, friends! I've had a fabulous reading week! I hope you have too!

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Current Read

I'm currently reading two books. I'm rereading Lady Susan* by Jane Austen for the JASNA Reading Group I belong to. We meet this Saturday. I love meeting up with these ladies!

I'm also rereading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone* by J.K. Rowling. I love the Harry Potter series and find my self rereading them starting around Christmas. I thought about maybe skipping it this year... I'm not sure if I'll read all of them, but I do love them, and it's easy to get sucked into the story. :)

Recently Finished

I tore through three books this week! Love it! Woot! I don't do that very often at all. :)

I finished reading Sanditon: Official iTV Tie-In Edition* by Kate Riordan. I enjoyed it. I hope there is a sequel in the works because the ending was a little disappointing.

My full review will be posted on Feb. 24 as part of the Sanditon Blog Tour. ~ I think I'm giving it 3.5 stars. I'm still rolling that around in my mind.

I've watched the first two episodes of the series on PBS. Do you have plans to watch them?

I also read The Storm (H2O, #2)* by Virginia Bergin. I really liked it! It was much better than the first in the series. I adore crazy, irresponsible Ruby! All I can say is she is lucky she survived at all! For me, this was just a fun book to read. ~ 4.5 stars.

Plus, I read I Am Still Alive* by Kate Alice Marshall. I love survival stories, and that's what this was. Sixteen-year-old Jess, whose leg was severely damaged in a car accident - which also killed her mother. She is sent to live with her father, who lives in the middle of nowhere! She misses her mother and is irritated with her father. Shortly after she gets there, her father is murdered, and she is left alone. It's almost winter, she knows nothing about surviving in a forest, and she is worried the men who killed her father will come back. Thank goodness Bo, her dad's dog is there. Jess is angry, scared, and has a strong will to survive. This was an intense, action-packed story that had me on the edge of my seat! ~ 4.5 stars.

What's next?

I'm not sure, but I'm thinking about reading Call it What You Want by Brigid Kemmerer. It's been sitting on my shelf for a while and would like to read it! Lol! It looks cute.

Wow! What a great week for me! :) Like I said, that doesn't happen much. I hope it happens again! Lol!

Please share what you've been reading! I'd love to hear!

What Are You Reading? ~ Jan. 16th, 2019

* * Post contains affiliate links. * *

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Hello, my friends! The last few days have been raining here in Southern California! I love the rain! It's perfect for curling up on the couch and reading a good book. If only I could read all day! Now, that would be lovely! :)

Here's my list:

I'm currently reading The Outlaw's Mail Order Bride by Linda Broday. I'm so fascinated by the thought of mail-order brides, and I love reading about them! I'm sure they didn't really turn out as wonderful as these stories turn out to be. I imagine it was a pretty scary proposition. Anyway, I'm enjoying this one! :)

I'm about 35% finished with Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen. I have to have 50% read by this Saturday for reading group. I should be able to do that. :)

Recently Finished

I recently finished reading Praying with Jane: 31 Days Through the Prayers of Jane Austen by Rachel Dodge. I loved it! I didn't get to it daily, so it took me a while to finish. I loved reading Jane's prayers. Rachel broke these down into a 31-day devotional. It's really a lovely book.

I also finished re-reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling. Of course, I loved it. I had to stop myself from grabbing the next one in the series (which is my favorite!) because I have some books I need to read for review.

The week before, I finished re-reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling. Loved!

What's next?

I still need to read The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros for review. I was going to read this one first, but I looked at my list and saw I needed to review The Outlaw's Mail Order Bride first. :) The Last Letter looks good! I'm excited to start on it!

What Are You Reading? ~ January 2, 2019

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Happy New Year, my friends! Wow, it's 2019! That's crazy! Lol! I took a couple weeks off from the blog for the holidays. I've been doing some easy reading, too. I hope you had a very merry Christmas, and I wish you all the best in the new year!

So, what have you been reading? Here's my list:

I'm currently re-reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling. Yes, I'm loving it. I really needed to read something easy, comforting, and fun to escape the busyness of the holidays!

I'm also re-reading Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen for the Jane Austen reading group that I belong to.

Since my last post I've finished:

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling.

The Paper Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg. I listen to the audio while I was traveling! It was very good!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K Rowling. What's there to say about Harry Potter, I love all the books in the series!

A Short Period of Exquisite Felicity by A D'Orazio. I enjoyed this! Lots of obstacles to overcome! I was sad that I didn't like my favorite secondary character (Colonel Fitzwilliam) in this story. 4 stars

What's next?

I have a book to read for review from NetGalley called The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros. It looks really good!

FTC Disclaimer: Links to Amazon. I am an Amazon Associate. Should you purchase a copy of the book through the link provided, I will receive a small commission. Thanks!

I still have to update all of my challenges and start new ones! I also want to change up a few things, but I'm still thinking about that. I'm looking forward to a great year of reading and hopefully reviewing! :)

So, tell me, what are you reading?
