What Are You Reading? ~ May 8, 2019

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Happy Wednesday! I had a pretty good reading week! My new pair of glasses seem to be doing a great job! I haven't had a headache all week! Yes!

Here's my list:

I'm currently reading The Girl I Used To Be by April Henry. Right off the bat, I'm into this one! I really love April Henry's YA thrillers!

I'm also re-reading Northanger Abbey by Jane Austin. Another book to read for my JASNA reading group! We are discussing the first half of the book in the next meeting.

I recently finished reading Last Chance by Gregg Hurwitz. This was the second book in the Rains series. Another good YA apocalyptic/zombie/sci-fi story! Spores or parasites turned adults into zombie-like creatures who were preparing the earth for Aliens to inhabit. It's up to Chance and Patrick Rain to save humanity! 4.5 stars.

Before that, I finished The Rains by Gregg Hurwitz. I like this first book enough to get started in the second right away! 4 stars.

What's next?  I'm not sure. I'll let you know next week! :)

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Happy Wednesday, friends!

Here's my list:

Currently Reading:

I'm slowly reading The Annotated Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and David M. Shapard. So much good stuff in here!

Recently Finished:

I finished reading Alive (Sundown Series Book 3) by Courtney Konstantin. I loved it! This third book explains how the virus that turns people into zombies started. I certainly hope there will be a fourth book. I would like to know more about what happens to the Duncans and if a cure is discovered!

What's next?

I'm not sure, but I picked up a new book at the LA Times Festival of Books that I'm excited to read called Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne. It's a Jane Eyre retelling set in space!

What Are You Reading? ~ April 10, 2019

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Happy Wednesday, friends! It's been a better reading week for me. How about you?

Here's my list:

Current Read:

Last week I started reading the first book in the Sundown Series by Courtney Konstantin, and really got into it! So, I'm just starting the third book, Alive! Hopefully, it's as good as the first two!

These books all start at approximately at the same time; at the beginning of the plague that turns people into zombies. Each book is from the POV of adult siblings who were raised by a doomsday prepper. Each very equipped to handle such an occasion, thanks to their dad.

Recently Finished:

I finished reading Survive (Sundown Series Book 2) by Courtney Konstantin. This is Max Duncan's story. She and her daughter are trying to make it to their family compound in Montana. In this book you learn a little bit more about what's going on with the government and the zombies. A fast-paced story!

I also finished Prepared (Sundown Series Book 1) by Courtney Konstantin. I loved it! This is Alex Duncan's story of how she uses all the survival skills her crazy dad taught her to get her and her two kids to the family compound.

What's next?

I'm not sure. I think I'm going to have to read something not quite so tense! Lol! I'll probably just finish reading The Annotated Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and David M. Shapard for this months reading group meeting.

What Are You Reading? ~ April 3, 2019

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Happy Wednesday, my friends! How has your week been treating you? My week's flown by, as usual!

Here's my list:

Currently Reading:

I'm reading Prepared (Sundown Series #1) by Courtney Konstantin. It's exciting! But I guess I didn't read the book blurb very carefully (I must have read only the first sentence! Lol) because I didn't realize this was a zombie/apocalypse story! I love apocalyptic stories, but I could do without the zombies! It's still really good! :) This is Courtney Konstantin's debut novel.

I've also read some more in The Annotated Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and David M. Shapard. I'm trying to read a couple chapters a day. Some of Shapard's remarks are so interesting.

Recently Finished:

I finished Before I Let Go by Marieke Nijkamp. This was a strange, sad, and mystical (or maybe magical, or a little of both??) story. It dealt with bipolar disorder, suicide, grief, and a strange town. 3 stars.

What's next?

I think I'm going to read The Final Six by Alexandra Monir, or I might read the second in the Sundown series. I'll let you know next week!

What Are You Reading? ~ Dec. 6, 2017

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finish reading, and what you plan on reading next!

I was on the road last week, so I got some audiobooks in!

Here's my list:

I'm currently re-reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling. Of course, I'm loving it! :)

I recently finished Between the Lines by Tammara Webber. I loved it, and I was surprised by the fact that the story is being told while the characters are filming a modern Pride and Prejudice movie. Fun! I definitely want to read book 2 of the series! (This was an audiobook.)

I also finished The Darkness by W.J. Lundy. This was a fun book to listen to while driving! ;) Between this and the coffee, I was tense most of the way there! Haha!

I also finished Holidays with Jane: Thankful Hearts by Rebecca M. Fleming, Jennifer Becton, Melissa Buell, Nancy Kelley, Cecilia Gray, and Jessica Grey. This set of modern Jane Austen short story retellings was a fun Thanksgiving read.

What's next? I'm not sure! I have so many good books to read! But maybe a Christmas story like Mr. Darcy's Present by Regina Jeffers.

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finish reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Here's my list:

I'm almost finished with An Inconvenient Ward by Audrey Harrison. It's really good!

I'm also reading The Rule of Three by Eric Walters. So far, it's pretty good. Although, one character, Herb, is kinda getting on my nerves! Lol!

No progress on A Clash of Kings this week.

I recently finished Undeceived by Karen M. Cox. The first half was a little slow for me, and I was disappointed by the "proposal" scene, but the second half of the book was great with a couple of interesting twists at the end!

What's next? I'm not sure.

What Are You Reading? ~ October 5, 2016

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finish reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Here's my list:

I'm currently reading The Shade of the Moon by Susan Beth Pfeffer, the 4th and final book of the series. This last book has shifted from a survivalist story to a dystopian. It took me a while to get into this one, mainly because I'm not fond of the protagonist.

I finished reading The Dead & the Gone (Bk 2) and This World We Live In (Bk 3) by Susan Beth Pfeffer. I couldn't put them down. I really enjoyed them!

What's next? I'm not sure...I will probably read a few more chapters of A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin before picking up a new book.

What Are You Reading? ~ September 28, 2016

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finish reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Here's my list:

I've just started  The Dead & the Gone (Last Survivors, Bk 2) by Susan Beth Pfeffer. I'm excited to read this because I loved book one of the series. Hopefully, this will be just as good. The same catastrophic event, different town, different people.

I didn't get much reading done in A Clash of Kings (A Song of Fire and Ice, Bk 2) by George R.R. Martin this week. I think I read one chapter.

I finished reading Life as We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer and LOVED it! I really like survivalist stories, so it makes sense that I would love this. It makes me want to start stockpiling food! I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

I also finished reading My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows. It was really good! I loved this alternative history with a little paranormal thrown into the mix. I'll have a review up soon!

What's next? Unless I need a break, I'm planning on reading the next in the Last Survivors series, This World We Live In (Bk 3) by Susan Beth Pfeffer.

W... W... W... Wednesdays ~ August 13, 2014

W... W... W... Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should be Reading. To play along, just answer the following questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll read next?

What am I currently reading? I am currently reading Pride, Prejudice and the Perfect Betby Marilyn Brant. I'm thoroughly enjoying this story! This is Jane and Bingley's story in this modern day Pride and Prejudice. It's a sequel to Pride, Prejudice and the Perfect Match (my review).

What did I recently finish reading? Well, I haven't posted a WWW post for the last two weeks, so I have a few books that I finished. Three of the books were part audio books and I listen to them while driving and read them while I wasn't. That whisper-sync is pretty awesome! Here's what I read:

Jane Austen's First Love by Syrie James. It's wonderful book about a fifteen-year-old Jane Austen. My review will be up on Friday.

Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne. This apocalyptic story was pretty good. It's about a group of kids who are on the way to school when a horrific storm hits and they have to seek shelter in a Greenway store (which is like a big box store with everything in it). I was surprised at the wide range of ages of the kids in this story. From five to seventeen-years-old. I didn't think I would read the next book in the series, but it got really good and then it had a major cliffhanger!! So, you got it... my next read was:

Monument 14: Sky on Fire by Emmy Laybourne. This book was really good! More action! I think the first book was more of a setup, explaining what's going on and why. Now, this second book is "the escape". There is a third book, but this one has a good ending. By that, I mean it felt finished. Complete. I do want to read the third because I like these kids and I want to hear more. Plus, there are a couple of loose ends.

The Girl Who Was Supposed to Die by April Henry. This was kinda intense! I really enjoyed it too! Not my typical read, but I do like survival stories. This YA story is about a girl who wakes up on the floor of a cabin in the woods. She has no idea who she is or what's going on, but she knows she's in danger, and she can hear two men talking about getting rid of her. When she escapes, she has to figure out who she is and why someone is trying to kill her! It's a fast-paced thriller.

The last three were the audiobooks.

What do I think I'll read next? I kinda want to read The Giver by Lois Lowry since the movie will be out this Friday! :)
