What Are You Reading? ~ April 14, 2021

Hey there, my friends! It's been a long time since I did a What Are You Reading post! I don't know if I'm going to be consistent in doing these, but I thought if I don't get started again, I won't ever get started! Lol!

What are you Reading? Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Current Read

I'm currently reading Traces of Guilt* by Dee Henderson. This cold case mystery has me hooked! So far, I haven't been able to solve the mystery myself. There are so many possible ways it could go. I'm also a fan of all the characters in the story.

Recently Finished

I recently finished reading Shadow and Bone* by Leigh Bardugo. I've heard so many good things about this story, and I wanted to read it before the Netflix show comes out. It didn't really live up to the hype for me. It was good, but I didn't love the protagonist. So, I'm not sure if I'm going to continue with the series. Maybe if the show is good, I'll pick it up again. ~ 3.5 stars.

I also listened to the audiobook of They Went Left* by Monica Hesse. I really enjoyed this story. It follows Zofia Lederman after she has been liberated from the Gross-Rosen concentration camp. After spending a couple of months in a hospital, she sets out to find her little brother. It was interesting to see what life was like for Zofia as she tries to piece her life and memories together. ~ 4.5 stars

This is the second book I've read by this author. Both were set during WWII. I think she does a great job researching her books.

What's next?

I plan on reading a book my daughter lent me, The Girl He Used to Know* by Tracey Garvis Graves. It looks good!

On a personal note, I have some fantastic news! I recently became a grandma! One of my sons and his wife had a beautiful baby boy. He was born almost 3 weeks ago.

He's only a few days old in this picture!

Are you reading anything good? Let me know in the comments!

What Are You Reading? ~ July 29, 2020

Hello, friends! It's been a month since I posted my What Are You Reading? post! I might as well just start posting a Monthly Wrap-Up! I haven't been reading enough to talk about it until this week.  Hopefully, my reading slump has been broken! So, here we go...

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Current Read

I'm currently reading Serious Moonlight* by Jenn Bennett. Yes, I started this a few months ago and set it aside. I've picked it back up, and I think I'll stick with it! :)

Recently Finished

I recently finished Rayne & Delilah's Midnite Matinee* by Jeff Zentner. I loved it! I laughed out loud a few times, and it also had me crying at the end. I love a story that grabs my emotions. - 5 stars.

I listened to Animal Farm* by George Orwell while driving home from Arizona. It was terrific and something to think about during the current climate of our nation.  - 5 stars.

I also listened to The Cuckoo's Cry by Caroline Overington. Written during this COVID pandemic, it's a mystery about a girl who shows up at a man's house claiming to be his granddaughter from the son he gave up. Having nowhere to go, she shelters in place with Don, her grandfather. Don's daughter is not so sure about this girl's story and starts investigating. It was good! - 4 stars.

Finally, I finished One Perfect Summer* by Brenda Novak. This story never grabbed me. It's an interesting premise, though. Three ladies find out they are half-sisters after doing a DNA test. It's a mystery how they are related as they all come from different backgrounds. One is raised by both parents (at least she thinks they are her parents), one by her single mom, and one was found abandon in Florida at the age of two and was raised in the foster system. - 3 stars.

What's Next?

That I'm not sure of! :)

What Are You Reading? ~ June 24th, 2020

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Oh, my! I have been in a major reading slump. I don't think I've been in one this bad since I started this blog. I'm like 3 books behind on my Goodreads Reading Challenge when I was 6 books ahead about 2 months ago. 🤦‍♀️

Ok, let's see where I am. Its been a few weeks since I've posted.

Current Read

I'm currently reading One Perfect Summer* by Brenda Novak. I pick this one up the other night when I couldn't sleep, and I needed something to read in bed. So, far it's good! Although I'm only about 6% into it.

Recently Finished

I recently finished The Jane Austen Society* by Natalie Jenner. I should have my review up on Monday the 29th. It was hard for me to get into, but I did enjoy the last half!

I also finished reading What's Left of My World* by C.A. Rudolph. It was good, and someday I would like to read the next in the series.

What's next?

I want to read Shannon Winslow's Murder at Northanger Abbey*! It sounds like a fun sequel to Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey.

As far as my reading slump, I think my interests have been elsewhere. I have been sewing more lately. First, I watched a bunch of YouTube videos and some BluPrint classes to inspire me and to brush up on my rusty sewing skills. Plus, I never seem to buy the right fabric, so I concentrated on learning more about the different fabric types. I ordered a few cotton lawn prints for some tops, and I'm ready to get to work.

I think I should start listening to audiobooks while I sew! :)

So, tell me, what are you reading?

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finish reading, and what you plan on reading next!

I hope you are well and keeping safe! Oh, I have been on a reading slump lately! I finally finished a book. Lol! So, here's what I've been reading for the last couple of weeks.

Current Read

I'm currently still reading What's Left Of My World* by C.A. Rudolph. I'm almost finished! Yay! It's a good story, but I'm not sure if I was really in the mood to read a post-apocalyptic story at the moment. With all the unrest in the country.

Recently Finished

I finished reading Secondborn (Bk 1)* by Amy A. Bartol. This is the first of three books in the Secondborn Series. It was very good. Lots of world-building and it leaves off unfinished so you'll need to read the whole series. Secondborns are born to serve firstborns and to replace them if they die. They are second class citizens and have no rights. Of course, a rebellion is coming! :) ~ 4 stars.

What next?

I'm going to start The Jane Austen Society* by Natalie Jenner. I'm so looking forward to this! Hopefully, it will get me out of this slump!

What Are You Reading? ~ May 20, 2020

Happy Wednesday, friends! My reading has slowed way down. My daughter asked me to show her how to crochet - I was thrilled!! Anyway, we've been staying up late crocheting and rewatching Parks and Rec episodes! So fun! Which means since I mostly read at night, I've not been reading as much. I'm not complaining, though! I love spending time with her!

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

I didn't post last week, so this is from the previous two weeks.

Current Read

I'm still reading What's Left Of My World* by C.A. Rudolph. It's pretty good! The story starts about a year after an EMP episode, which is different from most of the stories I've read. I'm enjoying it!

Recently Finished

I finished reading What Unbreakable Looks Like* by Kate McLaughlin. It's a story about a girl, Lex (or Poppy, the name her pimp gave her), who was rescued from sex traffickers. The story begins the night of her rescue. The pull to go back to her pimp and that life, as horrible as it is, is so interesting! It seems like a realistic look at what Lex had to go through to recover from that situation and how she was seduced into that life. I was rooting for Lex the whole time! ~ 4 stars  (my review show go up on June 18 for the book's blog tour)

What's next?

I still want to read Only a Breath Apart* by Katie McGarry.

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Hello, my friends! I skipped last week, but I'm back. I've been sewing and crocheting more lately. :) I've really enjoyed it! I've been watching a bunch of videos and online classes to brush up on some techniques I've forgotten (I used to sew all the time!). So, my reading has slowed down a bit.

Current Read

I started reading What's Left of My World: A Story of a Family's Survival* by C.A. Rudolph. I'm not very far into it, so nothing to report.

Recently Finished

I finished reading Taken* by Mary Anne Mushatt. I will have my review up on Monday as part of the Taken Blog Tour. I hope you can stop by!

I also finished Attachments* by Rainbow Rowell. The emails between Beth and Jennifer were fun to read and had me laughing quite a few times. The middle of the story slowed down a little, but it picked up and had a great ending! I love Rowell's writing! I would highly recommend any of her books. 4 stars

What's next?

I'm probably going to read Only a Breath Apart* by Katie McGarry. I've read some of her other books and love them! I'm looking forward to this one.

What Are You Reading ~ April 22, 2020

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Current Read

I'm currently reading Attachments* by Rainbow Rowell. I'm loving this story! I started reading it because I needed something to read in bed. I read on my Kindle Fire with the blue light turned off and very dim so I don't disturb my husband. The problem with this story is that it's funny and I have to muffle my laughter! LOL!

Recently Finished

I finished reading In the Shadow of Blackbirds* by Cat Winters. I loved this paranormal mystery set during the 1918 Flu epidemic. Historically, I didn't realize (it just didn't click in my head) that this epidemic hit at the same time WWI was going on and we lost so many men during that too. What a crushing time. Plus, there were photographers claiming to be able to capture the spirit of a loved one on film. ~ 5 stars.

What's next?

I'm going to start reading Taken* by Mary Anne Mashatt soon.

What Are You Reading? ~ April 15, 2020

Happy Wednesday, my friends! I hope you are all doing well! We celebrated Easter here by watching church online and having a delicious dinner together. I also made some scrumptious cinnamon rolls for breakfast!

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Current Read

I just started In the Shadow of Blackbirds* by Cat Winters. So far, it's terrific. It is set in 1918 during the Spanish Flu epidemic. It feels much like today with everyone wearing masks! I bought this book last year when I heard Cat Winters speak at the LA Festival of Books. I didn't realize it was set during an epidemic until I saw a tweet by Cat recently. So, I thought now would be a good time to read it! Lol!

Recently Finished

I finished reading Lakeshire Park* by Megan Walker. I'm working on a review now and should have it posted on the 23rd as part of the blog tour! I hope you can stop by for that!

What's next?

I will probably start reading Taken* by Mary Anne Mushatt.

What Are You Reading? ~ April 8, 2020

* * Post contains affiliate links. * *

Hello, my friends! I hope this post finds you all well! I didn't get any reading done last week because I was busy making masks for my family and some of my kid's co-workers. And I forgot to post my Wednesday post! So, I'm going to let you know what I've been reading since the last time I posted! :)

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Current Read

I'm currently reading Lakeshire Park* by Megan Walker. I'm not too far into it, but I'm enjoying it! It's a Regency romance. I'm part of the upcoming blog tour and will be posting a review.

Recently Finished

I finished reading Educated: A Memoir* by Tara Westover. What a fascinating read! I thought the beginning when Tara was a child was a bit slow, but boy, as she got older, it was incredible. I don't know how her family survived some of the incidences she describes in the story. I couldn't stop reading it. ~ 5 stars.

I also finished reading Live, Love, Longbourn* by Jennifer Becton. I really enjoyed this feel-good story! I loved the quirky little town the Bennet sisters live in, and with Charlotte going to be the chef at Elizabeth's new Inn, I thought it had a little bit of a Gilmore Girls feel to it! I can't wait to read the rest of the sister's stories! ~ 4 stars

Jennifer Becton talks a little about what inspired her to write Live, Love, Longbourn. You can check that out here.

What's next?

I'm not sure... whatever catches my fancy! ;)

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Happy Wednesday! I hope you're having a good week. I have to say, I'm not a fan of the time change. Lol!

Current Read

I'm currently reading Aftermath* by Kelley Armstrong. I'm enjoying this mystery/thriller about a girl, Skye, who has to return to the town where her brother was killed in a school shooting three years earlier. He was one of the shooters. Being back is opening old wounds, and new information is being uncovered about that day...

I'm looking forward to finding out what's going to happen next!

Recently Finished

I recently finished reading Tweet Cute* by Emma Lord. It was a fun read! And makes you want to eat grilled cheese sandwiches and crazy fun desserts!

What's next?

Maybe Serious Moonlight* by Jenn Bennett. It's one from my Book Outlet haul!

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Happy Wednesday, my friends! I hope you've had a great week! I've been pretty busy, but I still found time to read! Yay!

Current Read

I'm currently reading Daisy Jones & the Six* by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It's written like an interview, as the members of the band and Daisy recall the past. I love the time period. Everyone seems so free, but that freedom can be a little destructive too.  Drugs, sex, and rock-n-roll!

Recently Finished

I finished re-reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince* by J.K. Rowlings.  Again, I loved it! :)

I also re-read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows* by J.K. Rowlings. I couldn't help it. I had to finish the series. It's so good!! Now, I'm sad it's over. Haha!

What's next?

I'm thinking about something Austenesque, like Letters From the Heart* by Kay Bea. I've heard good things about this one!
