What Are You Reading? ~ Aug. 7, 2019

Happy Wednesday! Wow, it's been a while since I've posted a "What Are You Reading?" post. A busy summer working on the house and going on vacation has taking up my time. I've really enjoyed my summer! I hope you have, too!

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finished reading, and what you plan on reading next!

I'm reading a couple of books right now, which is not my norm (I'm more of a one book at a time kind of gal!). I've been in a little reading slump and have been jumping around books hoping something will catch.

Currently Reading:

I'm presently reading Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin. - Darcy and Rachel are best friends, and Rachel is sleeping with Darcy's fiance. - I really don't like a cheater, so at the beginning of the book, I kept getting annoyed with Rachel, and I kept asking myself, "why am I reading this?" Then last night I picked this up and got sucked in! Yay!

I also started reading Rules of Conflict: A Post-Apocalyptic EMP Survival Thriller (Book 2) by Jack Hunt back in June. I read the first book and enjoyed it, but I'm not getting into this one. Hopefully, I will soon. I pick it up every now and then.

Recently Finished:

I recently finished To Conquer Pride: A Pride and Prejudice Variation by Jennifer Altman. Elizabeth and Darcy trapped together in a snowstorm? Always a great way to start a variation! I enjoyed this one! ~ 4 stars

What's next?

I'm going to start reading Eligible: A Modern Retelling of Pride and Prejudice by Curtis Sittenfeld soon. Have you read it? I've heard good things and not so good things about this one.

Here's a couple of pictures from my vacation. We spent a couple of days in New York City, then a week at the shore in New Jersey.

Have a great week, friends! Be sure to share what you've been reading!

Twin Piques by Tracie Banister

Twin Piques by Tracie Banister

Publication Date: January 3rd, 2015
Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform
Pages: 462
Received: e-copy from the author for my honest review
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Twin Piques is a mixture of sweet and spicy! This fun Chick-lit is about twins who are complete opposites. Written from both POVs, both girls have such different personalities and lead such different lives, it’s like reading two different stories!

Willa is sweet, compassionate, a bit whimsical, and always optimistic. Her heart yearns to find love, and she believes that someday that will happen. She also has the unique ability to communicate with animals; more specifically, dogs and cats. Working as a dog psychic, Willa helps people out with their pet problems.

Sloane is serious, hard working and fierce! She is determined to become a partner in the firm she works for as a forensic accountant. She doesn’t have time for love. It’s sex without commitment for her. She keeps her heart protected because she feels they only one she can depend on is herself.

I love the difference between Willa and Sloane! Their chapters read so differently too. It was interesting going from fun, bubbly chick-lit to a more mature contemporary romance, but at the same time I did have a hard time getting into this story. I think the switching back and forth between storylines kept me from being hooked - breaking the flow of the story. It wasn’t until they two started overlapping did I get sucked in. Then I loved it!

One of my favorite characters is Gavin, who lives next door to Sloane. Willa and Sloane have known him all their lives. The three of them are best friends. Gavin is the author of a very popular graphic novel series that feature two twin superheroes. Of course, they are modeled after Willa and Sloane!

Twin Piques is a cute and humorous read, with a little spice thrown in the mix! This is the second story I’ve read by Tracie Banister, and I enjoyed both!

For Mature Audiences.

What did I recently finish reading? I finished reading The Princess Curse by Merrie Haskell. Great book! This is a mix of The Twelve Dancing Princesses, Beauty and the Beast, and a little Greek Mythology thrown in there too! Cute!

What do I think I'll be reading next? I think I'll read Steampunk Darcy: A Pride and Prejudice Spoofby Monica Fairview. The only thing that bothers me here is Spoof. I'm not sure if I'm going to like that. We'll see!

The Twelve-Step Plan by Erin Brady ~ My Review

The Twelve-Step Plan by Erin Brady

Publication Date: February 3, 2015
Publisher: Price Publishing
Pages: 259
Received: E-copy from the author
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

So, what’s the best way to get over an obsession? Face it head-on! Sadie has tried everything to get over her “crush” on Latin music star Xavier, X for short. Now she figures the only way around it is to meet him and make him fall in love with her! To make that happen, Sadie comes up with The Twelve-Step Plan!

College Professor Dr. Sadie Rollins is a smart woman. She’s always been so focused on school, always played it safe, never breaking the rules, and she's on the fast lane to get tenure at Preps College. After all that success, her dating life has been a failure. Now it seems she is done playing it safe and ready for a little "crazy!"

As Sadie puts her twelve-step plan into action, the fun begins! Even after all of Sadie’s well-laid plans, meeting X isn’t as easy as she had hoped, and Sadie finds herself in more than a few sticky (and humorous) situations.

Sadie’s obsession with X and the lengths she is willing to go to meet him seemed a little out there for me. For her to risk losing her job was a little hard for me to accept.

The Twelve-Step Plan is a fun, romantic comedy! I enjoy Ms. Brady’s sense of humor, and would recommend her stories to anyone who likes a clean, feel-good romance!

What are you Reading? ~ Feb. 18, 2015

"What are you Reading?" is a weekly meme hosted by me! If you'd like to join me, answer the following questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll be reading next?

What am I currently reading? I'm currently reading Obsidian (A Lux Novel Book 1) by Jennifer L Armentrout. I love how the protagonist is a book blogger! She sometimes mentions her blog, and the regular memes she posts, such as a "What are you Reading?" type of post! Fun! I was going to read Green Card, but I had an old root canal go bad, and I didn't want to read anything that I had to review. So, I picked this off my TBR pile, and I'm enjoying it!

What did I recently finish reading? I finished reading The Twelve-Step Plan by Erin Brady. This romantic comedy was fun to read for Valentines! Sweet! I'll have a review up soon.

What do I think I'll be reading next? I'm not sure. Probably something from my TBR pile, because I have too many reviews to catch up on.

What did I recently finish reading? I finished Girl, Stolen by April Henry. I loved this! So tense...I couldn't put it down!

What do I think I'll be reading next? I think I'm going to read Green Card by Elizabeth Adams. It looks like a fun read! It reminds me of the movie with the same name staring Andie MacDowel, and I loved that movie!

But, there's always a chance I may choose a book from my TBR pile instead! ;)
