Sunset Clause by J.W. Becton ~ My Review

Sunset Clause (Southern Fraud Thriller #6) by J.W. Becton

Publication Date: November 15th, 2017

Publisher: Whiteley Press, LLC
Pages: 333
Received: Purchased
Rating: 4 stars

All things must come to an end, but will Julia and Vincent survive the final showdown?

With Mark Vincent under investigation for a murder he didn’t commit and Mercer, Georgia, embroiled in a government corruption scandal, Julia Jackson decides it’s time to end the nightmare.

But when the US Attorney’s office takes over their investigation, Julia and Vincent are forced off the case. Sidelined from helping clear Vincent’s name and ending the rampant public corruption in Mercer, Julia and Vincent must find another way to root out the truth.

As their new side investigation heats up, Julia and Vincent’s adversaries start working overtime to hide the truth…by any means necessary.

The six-book Southern Fraud Thriller series blends gripping suspense with a hint of Southern charm and a slow-burn romance.

My Review

Sunset Clause is the sixth and last book in the Southern Fraud Thriller series. I’ve really enjoyed reading these books! I’ve loved getting to know Julia and Vincent and hanging out with them through all six books. Solving mysteries with them, and always hoping that they would become something more than partners as the sexual tension between them crackled!

In this book, Mark Vincent has been charged with murder, and Julia Jackson (now a private investigator) takes on an insurance case hoping while looking into it she can get some evidence to prove Mark’s innocence.

Julia and Mark are both on edge and feeling a little defeated - knowing they need to keep moving ahead on the investigation, but are afraid of the consequences for others and are not sure of their future.

Sunset Clause nicely wraps up all the loose ends from the entire series. I loved seeing some of my favorite characters from past books, like kooky Mrs. Twilley! Plus, I love how strong both Julia’s mom and her sister, Tricia, are in this book. Both have come along way!

Although the Southern Fraud Thriller series is ending, I'm happy to know we'll be seeing more of the characters from Mercer as J.W. Becton is starting another series called Mercer Murders!

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finish reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Oh, my word! I've been so busy getting ready for Thanksgiving I forgot to get this post up! Lol!

Here's my list:

I'm currently reading Holidays with Jane: Thankful Hearts by Rebecca M. Fleming, Jennifer Becton, Melissa Buell, Nancy Kelley, Cecilia Gray, and Jessica Grey. I'm really enjoying these short stories! I love how they've each taken one of Jane Austen's six published novels, condensed it down, modernizing them in very clever, well thought out ways!

I recently finished Sunset Clause (Southern Fraud Thriller, Bk 6) by J.W. Becton. I love it! Hopefully, I'll get a review up soon.

What's next? I think I may read The Young Elites by Marie Lu.

What are you Reading?  Let me know what your current read is, what you recently finish reading, and what you plan on reading next!

Here's my list:

I'm currently reading Sunset Clause (Southern Fraud Thriller Book 6) by J.W. Becton. I'm so happy to be with Julia and Vincent again! Each book has its own mystery, but the set has a continuing mystery that's finally going to be solved as this is the last of the series. I'm going to miss Julia and Vincent!

I recently finished re-reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling. As always, it was great to read!

What's next? As we are coming up to Thanksgiving here in the States, I thought maybe I'd read, Holidays with Jane: Thankful Hearts (Bk 5), an anthology of short stories written by Rebecca M. Fleming, Jennifer Becton, Melissa Buell, Nancy Kelley, Cecilia Gray, and Jessica Grey.

Shock Loss by J.W. Becton ~ My Review

Shock Loss (Southern Fraud Thriller #5) by J.W. Becton

Publication Date: October 14th, 2015
Publisher: Whiteley Press, LLC
Pages: 248
Received: E-copy from the author
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

I was so excited to hear that Shock Loss, the fifth book in the Southern Fraud Series was coming out that I read it soon after receiving it! I loved it! I so enjoy spending time with Julia and Vincent, that I'm going to be totally bummed when the series is over.

Now, this series is a continuing series, but at the same time, there is a solved mystery in each book. The continuing aspect is more of a personal nature than business, i.e. Vincent and Julia's growing romance that leaves us wanting more! And a cold case involving the rape of Julia's sister. So, I would suggest you read them in order.  But things change a bit in Shock Loss, and we are left hanging at the end.

Julia and Vincent are in trouble! Each of them is being framed for a crime they didn't commit. At the same time, someone is trying to kill them. Looking back at past cases, Julia and Vincent try to figure out who's out to get them. There are so many people who could be holding a grudge against them that they can't trust anyone - not even the police.

I love Julia's neighbor and best friend, Helena. I love the relationship they have - running over for coffee, having girl talk, but also, the fact that Helena is a US Attorney is a huge help for Julia, and she is one of only a handful of people that Julia can trust.

It was fun to see some of the characters from past books in this one too! As Julia tries to figure out who may be seeking their revenge on them.

As always, I love the chemistry between Julia and Vincent! I'm so happy that they take their romance a few steps closer in this one!

I really enjoyed Shock Loss! I think it might be my favorite of the series so far! I can't wait for the next and final book of the series!

What are you Reading? is my weekly Wednesday meme! You are welcome to join me, just answer the following questions:

What am I currently reading? I'm currently reading Shock Loss (Southern Fraud Thriller Book 5) by J. W. Becton. It's so good! Looks like someone is trying to frame Julia for murder! But she and Vincent are hard on the case. And I'm soooo happy Vincent and Julia are more than just partners now! ;)

What did I recently finish reading? I finished reading Shutter by Courtney Alameda. Wow! I really liked this YA paranormal thriller! It is a perfect read for this time of year! I could see this being scary on the big screen when they were trying to capture the ghosts!

What do I plan on reading next? I'm going leave that open for now. We are going to move soon, so it will depend on how I'm feeling.

What are you Reading? is my weekly Wednesday meme! You are welcome to join me, just answer the following questions:

  • What are you currently reading?

  • What do you plan on reading next?

What am I currently reading?  I'm currently reading Shutter by  Courtney Alameda. I'm not much for horror stories, but I'm really enjoying this YA paranormal/thriller, and it's a perfect book for October!

What did I recently finish reading? I finished reading The Infinite Sea: The Second Book of the 5th Wave by Rick Yancey. I thought this was good, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the first. I thought it was a little too much, and at times a bit unbelievable. I'm still planning on reading the third book when it comes out. I hope it's as good as the first!

What do I plan on reading next? I hope to read  Shock Loss (Southern Fraud Thriller Book 5) by J.W. Becton. Woot! I'm looking forward to spending some time with Julia and Vincent!

Moral Hazard by J.W. Becton ~ My review

Moral Hazard by J.W. Becton

Publication Date: March 21, 2014
Publisher: Whiteley Press, LLC
Pages: 302
Received: Purchased my own copy
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I was stoked to see another installment in J.W. Becton’s Southern Fraud Thriller series! Moral Hazard is the fourth book in the series about an insurance fraud detective, Julia Jackson, who, while working on her fraud cases, is also investigating another case on the side. She is trying to find her sister’s rapist. That investigation has been an ongoing storyline that runs throughout the books, while each book has it's own complete mystery to solve.  I’m a big Julia and Vincent (Julia’s partner) fan and couldn’t wait to see what kind of trouble they would get into this time!

After all the work Julia has put into finding her sister’s rapist, the words, “We’ve got a problem” are not what you want to hear. Now the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the case. It appears the evidence may have been tampered with and the case may be thrown out. Not only that, but Julia’s job is on the line for her involvement in the rape investigation.

Julia does a lot of reflecting in this story. Her life is falling apart fast, and she could lose everything she worked so hard for. She feels alone. She has Vincent, but their relationship seems to have taken a step back. Plus, he is busy with his own troubles that involve his son Jason.

In the meantime, Vincent and Julia are investigating another insurance fraud case. It appears Randy Blissett has been faking a back injury for seven years, and no one has been able to prove it. This case certainly has them puzzled.

I was thrilled to find one of my favorite characters from Death Benefits in this story, Mrs. Twilley! She is still a spitfire of a woman! She and her friend, Sydney, are hilarious as they try to help solve the case! Unfortunately, they do more harm than good, but I adored how they both were supportive and comforting to Julia. I love Mrs. Twilley and Sydney!

Ooh...creepy guy! Who is “The Watcher” that is lurking about? I always enjoy the chapters from the bad guys point of view. You never know who it is until the end!

I really enjoyed Moral Hazard! After a slow start, I was quickly sucked in! I was so tense in the end, wondering how Julia was going to get out of the mess she was in! I liked the combination of tension and humor, with a little gore thrown in! Oh, and let’s not forget about Vincent! Love Vincent!

W... W... W... Wednesdays ~ May 21, 2014

W... W... W... Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should be Reading. To play along, just answer the following questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll read next?

What am I currently reading?
I'm currently reading Accidentally Yours by Robin M. Helm. I'm just a few chapters in, but it's good so far!

What did I recently finish reading? I finished three books this week. I finished The Truth About Alice by Jennifer Mathieu, which was very good. I really enjoyed the way it was written. It was only something like 200 pages, making it a quick read. I'll have a review up in June.

Another book I finished was Moral Hazard by J.W. Becton. The fourth book in the Southern Fraud Thriller series! Again, I really enjoyed this one! I should have my review up Monday.

I also read Crash into You by Katie McGarry. Loved it! I bought this a while ago, when it first came out, and I can't believe I let it sit on my shelf for so long. Shame on me. Well, now I won't have to wait so long for the next because Take Me On will be out May 27! Woot! Read my reviews for Pushing the Limits and Dare You To.

What do I think I'll read next? hmmm... I'm not sure. I would like to get back into some dystopian, but I think I'll read Haunting Mr. Darcy by KaraLynne Mackroy. Looks like a fun read!

What are you reading? I'd love to hear from you!
