W... W... W... Wednesdays ~ 1/29/14

W... W... W... Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should be Reading. To play along, just answer the following questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What am I currently reading?   I am going to begin reading True to the Highlander by Barbara Longley. I'm looking forward to this book!

What did I recently finish reading?
I finished reading Tree of Life - Charlotte & the Colonel by Ginger Monette. It was really good. It was interesting to see the Colonel, and Charlotte for that matter, experience a lot of trials and face many obstacles. As a result, their faith became much stronger.

What do I think I’ll be reading next?  Next I think I'll read Divergent by Veronica Roth. I want to read it before the movie comes out. My daughter wants me the read The Maze Runner series by James Dashner. She really likes this series.

Twelfth Night at Longbourn by Maria Grace ~ My Review

Twelfth Night at Longbourn by Maria Grace

Publication Date: December 11, 2013
Publisher: White Soup Press
Pages: 135
Received: e-copy from author
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Twelfth Night at Longbourn is the fourth book in the Given Good Principle series. The focus in this book, is on Kitty Bennet, but as Maria Grace has mixed up the couples a bit in this series, I would recommend that you read the previous books for clarity, or at the very least read All the Appearance of Goodness (Vol 3).

Kitty is the only one of the Bennet girls left at Longbourn. Shortly after Jane, Elizabeth, and Mary are married, Lydia foolishly elopes with Lt. Harper, leaving Kitty to suffer the effects alone. Shunned by the people of Meryton. With her mother refusing to come out of her rooms and her father keeping to his library, poor Kitty is terribly lonely. She is saddened by the fact that it will be impossible to find a husband now and can’t bare the thought that life will continue on in this matter. She sees little hope of happiness.

When she receives an invitation to go to Pemberley for Twelfth Night, she rejoices in the fact that Lizzy didn’t forget her! Now she can get away from Meryton!  It is arranged that she will spend a few days in London with Miss Darcy before traveling to Pemberley. But can she really escape Lydia’s disgrace? Or will it follow her to London?

I wasn’t happy with this Georgiana. She is not the shy girl we know from the original Pride and Prejudice and she has not learned much since the first book of this series. She is a brat. She is pushy and doesn’t have very good manners. I didn’t really like her companion, Mrs. Hartwell, either. She was very strict, which Georgiana needs, but Mrs. Hartwell is way to harsh. Also, she seems sketchy to me. I find it hard to believe Elizabeth and Darcy would hire someone like that.

I enjoyed the ending very much! I was glad all the sisters (except for Lydia) were together and that Kitty gets her Happily Ever After!

Disclaimer: I received an e-copy of the book for my honest opinion.

Bloggiesta Mini-Challenge: The B-Word: Branding

Hey Everyone! Okay, I've completed my first mini-challenge of the weekend. Hosted by Amanda at On a Book Bender this challenge is about The B-Word: Branding.

Here are my answers to the questions:

Your name:

  1. How well does your blog name reflect what your blog is about? Ugh... that's another story. Needless to say, I didn't put much thought into it. That's something I'd like to change, but for now I'm sticking with it!
  2. Create a tagline. Because I knew I needed a better blog name, shortly after starting my blog I added "so much to read!"
  3. Look at the name you use to leave comments. Change it to reflect your brand. This is something I just change because of this mini-challenge. I changed to Candy @ So little time....

Your appearance:
  1. Do you have the same profile picture on all social networks (including your blog)? I did, but I recently changed my twitter pic. So, now it's different. :/
  2. Is the picture of you or an avatar? It’s of me.

Your personality (or “feel”)
  1. What do people expect from YOUR blog? I think, for the most part, they expect it to be about books. The interesting thing I have found is that most of my follower are Janeites and if I post anything not relating to Jane Austen I don’t get much traffic. This is something I want to change. I do read and review other types of books.

Self-promotion:
  1. Look at your Twitter timeline. What’s the ratio between interacting with people and self-promoting tweets? I try to keep it balanced, but I know sometimes it can be a little heavy with self-promoting. Something to work on.
  2. Write a social media update about your latest post (or your latest FAVORITE post) that teases and gives people a reason to click through. This one I’m not good at and I really need to work on. Here's the one I did for this challenge:
Soak in a hot tub & read a good book w/ this pkg! So little time...: Snow Fence Road by @ PhyllisRing

There you have it! If you want to do this challenge, go to On a Book Bender and for the rest of the Mini-Challenges head to Bloggiesta

As always, any thoughts? I'd love to hear from you!

Snow Fence Road by Phyllis Edgerly Ring ~ Review and GIVEAWAY!

Snow Fence Road by Phyllis Edgerly Ring

Publication Date: June 15, 2013
Publisher: Black Lyon Publishing
Pages: 166
Received: paperback from author
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

A village on the coast of Maine holds painful secrets—
the kind only the miracle of new love can heal.

Snow Fence Road is a tender love story of two people, Tess Johansen and Evan Marston. Both have suffer the loss of a loved one, and together learn to break free of the guilt they kept buried deep within themselves.

A few months after the death of her fiance, Andy, Tess moves to Knowle where she purchases the Spinnaker Inn. She runs it with the help of Claire, the original owner of the Inn. To keep her from thinking of Andy, Tess keeps herself busy cooking and doing small repairs at the Inn. He was only 29 when he died, and she always believed he would beat his cancer. Andy’s death was a terrible blow to Tess.

The death of Evan’s fiance, Celia is shrouded with mystery. Both he and Celia had fallen from a cliff. While Evan survived the fall, Celia did not. Rumors about the accident flew around the small town of Knowle, but Evan was never charged with any crime. He became a bit of a recluse after the accident. Only going out to work, he keeps to  himself most of the time. Pain from his shattered leg and bad dreams are constant reminders of Celia’s death.

Evan and Tess become friends and slowly begin to fall in love, something they never expected to happen to them again. When they finally give into their feelings and allow themselves to love again, ugly secrets come out and threaten to tear them apart. The mystery of what happened to Celia and why comes pouring out. Poor Tess is unknowingly put right in the middle of a touchy situation, leaving Evan upset and feeling betrayed.

I enjoyed reading Snow Fence Road. I found it a reflective and poignant read. A more mature read, as apposed to the edgy new adult books I've been reading.

The Holiday Gig by Erin Brady ~ My review

The Holiday Gig by Erin Brady

Publication Date: October 31, 2013
Publisher: Price Publishing
Pages: 256
Received: E-copy from author
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Once again, Erin Brady has delighted me with her new book, The Holiday Gig! It’s cute and fun, with a super hot hero! And the best part, it left me with a warm fuzzy feeling inside!

Taylor Barnes has worked so hard and is so close to her goal of becoming a partner in the high power law firm she works for. She logs in as many billable hours as she can, working through weekends and holidays.  Taylor is sure she has it in the bag when her boss, Mr. Wigs, drops a bomb in her lap, he makes it clear that he values not only hard work but that it is important for a partner in the firm to have a strong family life. A Family life?!...that is something Taylor does not have! She is too busy for a relationship, and she rarely visits her parents anymore. Taylor can’t tell Mr. Wigs there is no one special in her life. So, she makes up the perfect boyfriend, Tom Maguire! Now all she has to do is find him.

Taylor places an ad for a personal assistant. After interviewing several people, she picks Hunter Ryan for the job. But will he take the job when he finds out that the real job is to play the role of her “boyfriend” Tom Maguire?

Not only is Mr. Wigs insisting on meeting Tom, but her mother is also putting on the pressure for her to come home for the holidays. Her cousin and best friend, Melissa is getting married the day before Christmas, a big Christmas themed wedding, and her mother expects her to be there. In fact, she already RSVPed for Taylor, adding a plus one to the response card! Her mom's way of saying, "You need a man in your life." Hmmm... maybe a temporary boyfriend would come in handy.

I loved Hunter! Erin Brady knows how to write a handsome and swoon worthy hero! Hunter is smart, has a great sense of humor and is compassionate - he works at Higher Horizons, a children’s home. Hunter is an amazing man.

Hunter and Taylor are such opposites. She is so uptight; he is very laid back. She is all work and no play. Hunter likes to balance work and play. As they spend more time together, Hunter helps Taylor loosen up, to have fun, he shows her what’s important in life, but does she learn those lessons too late?

I loved The Holiday Gig! It is the perfect holiday read, but you don’t have to wait for the holidays to read it! It’s just right to read anytime, and one I would highly recommend!

I really enjoy Erin Brady's writing style. She is also the author of And The Winner Is... and The Shopping Swap.  You can read my reviews by clicking on the titles.
