W... W... W... Wednesdays ~ Nov. 26, 2014

W...W... W... Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should be Reading. To play along, just answer the following questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll read next?

What am I currently reading? I'm currently reading Holidays with Jane: Christmas Cheer by Jennifer Becton, Jessica Grey, Cecilia Gray, Melissa Buell, Kimberly Truesdale and Rebecca M. Fleming. I am loving these short stories! It's so perfect for this time of year! I started this book a couple of weeks ago, but could only pick it up now and then. I'm on the last two stories. The first four were wonderful! Jennifer Becton's modern Persuasion, The Work of an Instant, was perfect! Including Captain Wentworth's letter. *sigh* I also LOVE Rebecca's modern Sense and Sensibility called A Tale of Three Christmases. It was beautiful and very touching! Ok, ok, I could go on, but I'll save it for the review. Let's just say I loved them all, and have the feeling the last two won't disappoint!

What did I recently finish reading? I finished reading The Heart of Christmas (Whiskey Creek Book 7) by Brenda Novak. Fun read! You can read my review here.

What do I think I'll read next? I plan on reading The Muse by Jessica Evans. I'm looking forward to this modern Pride and Prejudice Variation! Where Elizabeth's a ballerina and she's dancing in Darcy's (who is a choreographer) newest show! What could go wrong there?!

The Heart of Christmas by Brenda Novak ~ My Review

The Heart of Christmas by Brenda Novak

Publication Date: October 28th, 2014
Publisher: Harlequin MIRA
Pages: 384
Received: E-copy from publisher via Netgalley
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I really enjoyed The Heart of Christmas! It was a fun, quick read that had a few different elements; romance, mystery, a small town atmosphere and a little bit of Christmas cheer!

Spending her 35th birthday alone isn’t something Eve Harmon wants to do! She is the last of her friends that is still single, and she feels like her dreams of having a husband and kids are slowly slipping away. She has plans to celebrate with her friends the next day, but tonight she is going to Sexy Sadie’s (Bar) to have a little fun! After one too many drinks, Eve wakes up in the morning with a gorgeous man in her bed! Uh oh! What did she do?!

Rex McCready, AKA Brent, is hiding out in the quaint little town of Whiskey Creek. The Crew, a gang he used to run with, has been looking for him ever since he defected ...because nobody leaves The Crew. He received word they may have found out his last alias, so he is laying low, hoping that they haven’t. Waking up in Eve’s bed isn’t what he had in mind. He can’t get involved with someone; it’s dangerous - for both of them. But, oh, he can’t stay away from Eve either.

The chemistry between Eve and Rex is strong, and their resolve to keep apart crumbles the minute they are in the same room together! Eve doesn’t want to be with someone she can’t trust, and she knows Rex isn’t telling her the truth. Determined to find out the truth, Eve and her friends dig into his past. Time is running out, and Rex must move on. Rex knows he can’t risk Eve’s life by staying with her. He’s so tired of running, and leaving Eve is the hardest thing he’s going to have to do.

I had my ideas of how Eve and Rex’s dilemma could be solve, but the ending Ms. Novak wrote I did not have in my radar! I have to say, her ending was much better than mine!

The Heart of Christmas is the seventh book in the Whiskey Creek series. It's the first book I've read of the series, and I didn’t feel like I was missing any important information. There were times I thought there was probably a backstory between old friends, but it didn’t hurt the present story. It could be read alone.

For those who care to know, there are no sex scenes in this story, only sexual references and mild language.

The Heart of Christmas is a wonderfully fun read!

This Christmas Blog Tour & GIVEAWAY!

Hello my Lovely Readers! I'm excited to be part of This Christmas Blog Tour! Christmas is fast approaching, and I don't know about you, but I'm getting my Christmas reads gathered together. I have to say, This Christmas looks like a great read!

In this light hearted and festive sequel to THIS SUMMER, Hadley and Will rekindle their relationship against the sparkling winter backdrop of upstate New York. This is a must read for fans of HOPELESS by Colleen Hoover.

As part of the blog tour, I asked if Ms Duncan would share some of her favorite Christmas Traditions, and here's what she wrote:

My favorite Christmas traditions are as follows:

Family dinners on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day involving perogies and golumpki’s. And more recently, lasagna!

Fire. I love sitting by the fireplace after a filling meal with family.

Giving gifts. I love seeing smiles on everyone’s faces (especially my puppy) when the gifts are opened.

Spending a very special time with family.

The tree! I love picking out the perfect tree and decorating it!

Speaking of decorating and picking out the perfect tree, here is a snippet from This Christmas where Will and Hadley find their Christmas tree:

“Let’s find you a Christmas tree.”

We spend the better part of ten minutes locating the axe he dropped during our impromptu snowball fight before arriving at the grove. I find the perfect tree within minutes. The shape and fullness of it is optimal for my vision of Christmas, but I feel bad cutting it down.

Will senses this and wraps an arm around my shoulder. “How about we come back here in the spring and plant another one in its place?”

I lean my head against his shoulder. “Promise?”

“Promise.”

I wander through the other trees as Will chops down the one I chose. The trees further into the grove have a lot of pine cones which quickly give me an idea. I collect several before they start to overpower me and fall one by one to the ground. I need at least two dozen to do what I want and the tree we cut down only has a few.
I unzip my coat and shove the pinecones I already have into it. Snow gets under my sweatshirt and through to my skin, but the sacrifice will be worth it. I have just enough when I hear Will calling for me.

I meet him by the tree I picked which is on the ground. He lifts it by the trunk and starts walking towards the cabin. He opens his hand at his side and I take it, getting more excited with each step I take.”

About This Christmas:

This year, if Hadley wrote her dream Christmas list, it would go something like this:

1. Spend every waking – and sleeping – moment with her incredibly gorgeous boyfriend, Will.

2. Figure out what’s been bugging him lately. Yes, going away to college has been tough…but it’s time they reconnected.

3. Enjoy a sparkling Christmas in New York City, gazing at the Rockefeller tree, going ice skating, and drinking steaming mugs of cocoa in Central Park.

So, driving off to spend Christmas in a rustic cabin in the woods wasn’t exactly the plan. But when it comes to her irresistible, and at times, impossible boyfriend, nothing’s ever that simple. And as fantasies of an icy Times Square are replaced by a clumsily decorated tree, making snowmen and the warmth of a log fire, Hadley feels herself falling in love all over again.

Except does Will have something to tell her that could change Hadley’s happily-ever-after Christmas dreams into a not-so-winter wonderland after all?

Don't miss this festive sequel novella to This Summer.

Also in the This Summer series: THIS SUMMER by Katlyn Duncan!

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll read next?

What am I currently reading? I'm currently reading Holidays with Jane: Christmas Cheer by a host of my favorite authors, Jennifer Becton, Jessica Grey, Cecilia Gray, Melissa Buell, Kimberly Truesdale and Rebecca M. Fleming (many of you know Rebecca as @RivkaBelle)! Together they have put together a collection of Austenesque short Christmas Stories! A perfect read for this busy Christmas season!!

What did I recently finish reading? I finished reading The Heart of Christmas (Whiskey Creek Book 7) by Brenda Novak. It was really good! It was a cute, quick read! I should have a review up soon.

I also read Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen. I enjoyed this one, too. It's the first book I've read of Ms. Dessen, and I'm sure it won't be the last. We had a long weekend here, and I spent one day just reading! It was a lovely day! :)

What do I think I'll read next? I'm not sure. I have a couple of books in mind... I let you know next week.

Sincerely Yours by Robin M Helm ~ GIVEAWAY & My Review

Sincerely Yours [Yours by Design] by Robin M. Helm

Publication Date: July 6th, 2014
Publisher: Smashwords
Pages: 278
Received: paperback from the author.
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Sincerely Yours is the second book in Robin M. Helm’s Yours by Design series. Beware, you must read Accidentally Yours, book 1, before reading this book as it has a continuing storyline. For a brief recap of book 1: After an accident, suffered simultaneously, Fitzwilliam Darcy (late 1700s) and Will Darcy (present day) switch places in time. Fitzwilliam wakes up in a modern hospital not understanding modern technology, and Will finds himself in Kent, 1795, Rosings Park.

Sincerely Yours is a fun book to read. First off, watching Fitzwilliam try to maneuver in the modern world is pretty funny! There are so many mannerisms that he just doesn't get or understand. On the other hand, Will has a good grasp of history dealing in the late 1700s and early 1800s. He fits in quickly, but he has other problems to deal with, like trying to repair the damage Fitzwilliam has done to Elizabeth and her family. Plus, he’s finding the real life of the Darcy’s and Bennet’s a bit different than in the book, Pride and Prejudice.

I was so glad to like Fitzwilliam again! I was not a fan of his in the first book. The jolt of suddenly being in the 21st century, being able to see his life through the film versions of Pride and Prejudice, and being a captive audience of Mrs. Thomas and Lance, his nurse and physical therapist, help him become a much better person!

Ooh, and I liked the introduction of the present-day Elizabeth Bennet! She has a sister named Jane and a rake like Wickham (named Greg) in her past. Will Fitzwilliam fall in love with her, and possibly persuade Elizabeth to fall in love with him?

I like the idea of seeing what’s going on in both time periods simultaneously, but I also found that it broke the flow of the story too much for me to get hooked. Maybe it was the limited reading time I had, but it wasn’t until near the end that I became hooked, and now I’m looking forward to the next book to come out!

I enjoyed reading Sincerely Yours, and I’m really looking forward to reading the next book of the series, Forever Yours

W... W... W... Wednesdays ~ Nov. 5, 2014

Oh, my! It's Wednesday already! It's time for W... W... W... Wednesdays, which is a weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should be Reading. To play along, just answer the following questions.

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll read next?

What am I currently reading? I've started my Christmas reading by reading The Heart of Christmas by Brenda Novak. I'm really enjoying it! Even though this is the seventh in the series, it stands alone just fine.
I receive this book from NetGalley, so I should have a review up soon! It looks like I'll have a nice little selection of Christmas stories to bring to you!

What did I recently finish reading? I finished reading Icons by Margaret Stohl. I enjoyed this dystopian story about Dol, a girl who is one of four kids who survive the effects of the Icons. Why did they survive? What makes them special, and how can they help the people that are under the control of the House of the Lords. The Lords are aliens who came to colonize the earth. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Idols! -Another book read for my Dystopian Book Challenge!

What do I think I'll read next? Hmmm... I'm not sure. I have a few books coming my way that I would like to read, but if they don't get here soon... I still have Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen to read. :D
