Wow! I can’t believe I waited so long to read this book! I've had my eye on it for a couple of years now. Shame on me for waiting so long, because I loved it! ...to end all wars is so much more than a romance! It’s a stirring tale of life, love and the hardship of war.

The year is 1917, and David Bellamy is off to war. He is leaving his high school sweetheart, Angela, behind with promises to return to her. While in France David meets Sophie Montigny, a young war widow. What begins as a friendship quickly becomes much more. A deeper more intense love, with more passion than he ever felt with Angela. But letters from Angela serve as reminders that life with Sophie is impossible.

David volunteers to go on a mission that will take him to the front lines of the war. The assignment is not an easy one, but it keeps his mind from thinking of Sophie.

...to end all wars is a raw look at life of a young man going to war. With horrific details of life for a WWI soldier; cold and wet, bugs and rodents, trenches dug in what looks like massive graves. What it’s like to face death, and then feeling guilty if you survived. And in the midst of it all is a lovely romance.

I really enjoyed this story!  ...to end all wars is a well written, fast paced, historical romance that I highly recommend!

5 out of 5 stars.

  1. I am glad you enjoyed this. I have it on my kindle but haven't got round to reading it yet. I really have to be in the right mood to read wartime stories, I find them so sad. Even when they are fairly happy stories I still find them sad, I think of what people sacrificed and the emotional stress of it all!

    1. Hi Ceri, yes, it's really good. I thought Gail did an excellent job with this story. The romance was really good and the main focus, but the war is there and that is sad. I think you will like it.

  2. Great review, Candy! I am so glad you enjoyed this book as much as I did. Ever since Downton Abbey, I can't seem to get enough WWI stories.

    1. Hi Kelli! Thanks! Yes, I really loved it! Oh, wow, I didn't think of that! I only watched the first season of Downton Abgey. :/ I kept forgetting it was on, then I got too far behind. I keep meaning to get caught up on that.
