W... W... W... Wednesday ~ May 1, 2013

W... W... W... Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should be Reading. To play along, just answer the following questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll read next?

What am I currently reading?  I am currently reading If I Fall by Kate Noble. I'm about half way through. I was having a hard time getting into it. I always wonder if it's the book or am I just too busy and too tired to get into it? (sometimes I don't start reading until 11 pm). I also didn't realize it's the 4th or 5th (?) book in a series.

What did I recently finish reading? The last book I finished was A Fair Prospect: Disappointed Hopes by Cassandra Grafton. I loved it! You can read my review here.

What do I think I'll be reading next? I hope to be reading ...to end all wars by Gail McEwen. I've been wanting to read this for a while now.

What are you reading?

  1. Nice choices! I really want to read A Fair Prospect: Disappointed Hopes, it keeps getting great reviews. I read to end all wars a few months ago and really enjoyed it.

Right now I am reading The American Heiress by Daisy Goodwin and on my Kindle I am reading Reflections by Linda Gonschior. I just finished 1932 by Karen M Cox which I absolutely loved. I haven't decided on my next book, maybe While We Were Watching Downton Abbey by Wendy Wax or When They Fall in Love by Mary Simonsen.

    1. I'm so glad you like "to end all wars"! I love the setting.

"The American Heiress" looks good! Beautiful cover! I haven't read "Reflections" yet, I'm looking forward to it! I can't wait to see what you think of both books.

  2. Kelli, 1932 is one of my favorites, I loved it.

I'm not currently reading anything, and the last book I read was His Majesty, the Prince of Toads. Overall I liked it quite a bit, although the last 25% of it was kind of all over the place. I'm hoping to start The Mysterious Death of Mr Darcy soon - maybe tonight. It's one of those that I know is going to engross me and not be a 'light' read, so I've been waiting til I know I can devote some time to it. If that makes sense. lol

    1. That makes perfect sense to me! I have that book too, and I think you're right - it's going to be engrossing. It's not a short book either.

I haven't heard of "His Majesty, the Prince of Toads".

  3. Well I am currently reading 'The Mammy' by Brendan O'Carroll. It's not my usual sort of thing really. There is a TV comedy here called Mrs Brown's Boys, about an Irish middle aged widow and her family and this book is the back story of the mammy. It is ok but if I hadn't watched the TV programme I wouldn't be enjoying that much.

The last thing I read was The Light Princess by George Macdonald, again not my usual type of thing. It is a fairy story about a princess who has a spell cast on her and she has no gravity, a children's story for slightly older kids I think. Weird. But I quite enjoyed it.

I think after all these odd reading experiences I deserve a real treat. I think next I will read an Abigail Reynolds, not sure if I will re-read Mr Darcy's Letter or get To Conquer Mr Darcy, which I think is the same as Impulse and Initiative.

    1. "The Light Princess" sounds kinda fun! Haha!

Yes, To Conquer Mr. Darcy is the same book as Impulse and Initiative. But I do think you deserve a treat! Some yummy Mr. Darcy will do nicely! ;)

  4. I find when I am writing, or even in full editing mode, I can't read because I need to keep my head firmly in my story. As a result, I have a huge backlog of books that I need to catch up on!

I am currently reading Mr Darcy's Refuge by Abigail Reynolds. I love Abigail's writing and she always tells such a good story. (I am trying to wean myself off Mr Darcy, but it's a slow process!)

I recently finished reading a couple of other Austen-inspired books, the one I enjoyed most being Austensibly Ordinary by Alyssa Goodnight. I don't often read the modern variations, but this was a really good read.

My list of what I'll be reading next just keeps growing and growing (as you say, Candy, "so little time"!!) I am thinking of making a break from the Austen-inspired works for a bit so I will probably pick up a Marian Keyes book. I know I have missed out on reading the last couple of releases, so I am going to start with The Brightest Star in the Sky. It has a mixed bag of reviews on Amazon.co.uk so I will be interested to see how it differs from her normal style.

    1. It's so interesting to hear how different authors are when they are writing. When I was talking to Syrie James at the LA Festival of Books, she said she is writing a Austen-inspired book and can only read JA books to keep the voice in her head.

I love Abigail's writing too! Mr. Darcy's Refuge is a fantastic book! Haven't read Goodnight's new one yet, would love to.

    2. Yes!!! That's precisely it, Candy. I too have to keep that voice in my head to stay with my characters. Glad to know I'm not alone! :D

  5. What I'm currently reading: 'A Touch of Scarlet' by Eve Marie Mont (Library book)
What did I finish reading: 'Inferno' by Sherrilyn Kenyon (It's kind of a reboot of her Dark Hunter Series - FANTASTIC!)
What I'll read next: 'Dead Ever After' by Charlaine Harris (I can't believe it is the last Sookie Stackhouse book!)

    1. I haven't heard of any of those, Angie. Are the last two Urban Fantasy? I've been thinking about trying some. What would you suggest?

  6. Start with Charlaine Harris' 'Dead Before Dark.' Sookie is an amazing heroine. I wouldn't characterize it as Urban Fantasy. What happened is that Japanese scientists have discovered how to synthasize blood, so vampires decide to 'come out of the coffin.' Imagine the town where Duck Dynasty is filmed & Uncle Si meeting his first vampire. The series is hilarious, sexy, scary and heart pounding!

    1. Thanks, Angie! I'll look that one up. Sounds like an interesting combination - "hilarious, sexy, scary and heart pounding!" :)

  7. I have just finished reading "Fortune Like the Moon" by Alys Clare. This is the first of 12 in the "Hawkenlye" series. It is a historical whodunnit novel set in medieval times, featuring the characters of Abbess Helewise and Josse d'Acquin. This was a good mystery as well as an interesting glimpse into 12th Century life. I truly enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I had to read it in Spanish as I couldn't find the original English version.
I'm currently re-reading Persuasion by Jane Austen. I really love this book!As soon as I finish it,I'll be reading "The Tavern in the Morning" another medieval mystery by Alys Clare

    1. Hi Patricia! A medieval mystery sounds interesting! And Persuasion is an excellent read!

I'm really enjoying this weekly post. It's a great way to find new books. I tend to stick with romance, and this has me looking at other genres.

  8. Hi, I love this idea of exchanging titles.

I just finished A Fair Prospect, Desperate Measures by Cassandra Grafton

I will be starting one of the following today: Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire; Don't Say a Word by Barbara Freethy; or Mr. Darcy's Noble Connections by Abigail Reynolds (love her stuff)

Next week while I am on the beach I will be reading Inferno by Dan Brown (love his work too)and since I will be on the beach for two weeks, I am probably going to go through another two books on my kindle. So what i don't start today, I may take up while in NC on the beach!
