LOVE AT FIRST SLIGHT by J. Marie Croft ~ Cover Reveal!!

Hey Everyone!! Today, I'm happy to be part of the Love at First Slight Cover Reveal!!

Wow! Isn't the cover beautiful! I love it!

About the Book:

“It may not be universally acknowledged, but the unvarnished truth is that a young widow in possession of a good fortune is not necessarily in want of another husband.”

In this humorous, topsy-turvy Pride & Prejudice variation, all the gender roles are reversed. It is Mr. Bennet’s greatest wish to see his five sons advantageously married. When the haughty Miss Elizabeth Darcy comes to Netherfield with the Widow Devonport nee Bingley, speculation—and prejudice—runs rampant.

William Bennet, a reluctant and irreverent future reverend, catches Miss Darcy’s eye even though he is beneath her station. However, his opinion of her was fixed when she slighted him at the Meryton Assembly. As her ardour grows, so does his disdain, and when she fully expects to receive an offer of marriage, he gives her something else entirely ….

Genre: Fiction | Romance | Historical | Regency | Jane Austen Sequel

About the Author:

J. Marie Croft, a Nova Scotia resident and avid reader all her life, discovered Jane Austen's works later than others but made up for lost time by devouring the six novels and as many adaptations and sequels as she could find. In the midst of reading prodigious amounts of Austen-based fan-fiction, she realized, "Hey, I can do that." In her spare time, when not working at a music school or on a wooded trail enjoying her geocaching hobby, she listens to the voices in her head and captures their thoughts and words in writing. Her stories are light-hearted; and her motto is Miss Austen's own quote, "Let other pens dwell on guilt and misery." J. Marie Croft is a member of the Jane Austen Society of North America (Canada) and admits to being "excessively attentive" to the 1995 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. Atone: A Fairytale by Jessica Grey ~ My review

Atone: A Fairytale by Jessica Grey

Publication Date: July 8, 2013
Publisher: Tall House Books
E-book: 192 pages
Received: e-copy from the author
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

“When you are with your true love you make your own magic.”

I loved this story! Atone: A Fairytale is a modern day Beauty and the Beast retelling set in Los Angeles. I love Jessica Grey’s writing style, her voice, and the magical way she has when telling a tale.

Grey’s characters from Awake are back for another adventure! It’s been two years since Lilia was freed from the sleeping spell she was under. And the girls have been living pretty normal lives. Until the day, Becca get a rather odd message to check up on their old boss, Nicholas. When she gets to his house, she finds out that Nicholas has been turned into a beast by some old magic linked to a mirror. It’s up to Becca to figure out how to break the curse and return him to his human form. One big problem is that he doesn’t want her help, and she really doesn’t want to help him! They’ve never gotten along, so, working together is not going to be easy.

Like in Beauty and the Beast, Nicholas, in his human form, is a self-centered, spoilt, and well, extremely handsome man, who has to learn to love someone else more than himself and be willing to give everything for that person. But in Atone, Becca also has a few lessons to learn. I really like that! Becca is not the perfect “Belle” that everyone loves!

Once again, I love the creative way Grey tells a story. With colorful spells that weave and pulse, shimmer and shine - she brings her story to life! I highly recommend reading Atone: A Fairytale! Although, Atone is the second book of the series, I feel it can stand alone. But I would read Awake: A Fairytale because it's so good! You can read my review for Awake here.

W... W... W... Wednesdays ~ August 28, 2013

W... W... W... Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should be Reading. To play along, just answer the following questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll be reading next?

What am I currently reading?  I am currently reading Lying to Meet You by Anna Garner. I've pretty much just started. So, I don't really know yet...but it seems good!

What did I recently finish reading?  I finished two books this week, The Viscount's Vow by Collette Cameron. It was fantastic! Action packed! And, Echoes of Pemberley by Cynthia Ingram Hensley. I really enjoyed it too, and I'm looking forward to reading the sequel, The Heart Does Whisper.

What do I think I'll be reading next? There's a couple of books I'd like to read to finish off the August TBR Read-a-thon I'm doing. So, maybe, Once Upon a Darkness by Aria Kane. This is a short story, and not one of my normal reads - a zombie story! And Faking it by Cora Carmack. Both of these are fun reads for me. I also have some sewing I would like to get done, so, I'm not sure...

Only a Heatbeat Away by P.O. Dixon ~ Review and GIVEAWAY

Only a Heartbeat Away: Pride and Prejudice Novella by P.O. Dixon

Publication Date: August 1, 2013
Publisher: P.O. Dixon
E-book: 155 pages
Received:  e-copy from the author
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Once again, P.O. Dixon delights us with another lovely variation of Pride and Prejudice in her new book Only a Heartbeat Away! I really enjoyed reading it!

What if Elizabeth didn’t go to the Meryton Assembly? And she doesn’t meet Darcy there. What if she had met Miss Georgiana Darcy the summer before when she toured Pemberley with her Aunt and Uncle Gardiners? These are some of the interesting twists you’ll find in Only a Heartbeat Away!

Elizabeth and Georgiana began corresponding after meeting at Pemberley, and they quickly become friends. While Elizabeth is in London visiting the Gardiners, Georgiana invites her be her guest at a few balls. This is where Elizabeth and Darcy first meet. Noting that Darcy and Elizabeth seem well suited for each other, Georgiana endeavors to make sure their paths cross often.

Darcy leaves Netherfield the morning after the Assembly (which was enough time for him to form an opinion of the Bennets). Without Darcy there, to discourage Bingley from Jane, Bingley and Jane soon become engaged. When Lydia runs off with Wickham, bringing shame to the Bennet family, Jane breaks her engagement with Bingley. She cannot bear to sully the Bingley name with her own. Sweet, sweet Jane.

As always, I loved Darcy’s second proposal to Elizabeth! It warmed my heart! I also liked that Georgiana and Elizabeth are friends first. I didn't really like that Jane and Elizabeth were given a certain amount of time to find a husband or one of them would have to marry a man of Mr. Bennet's choice. Of course, that does make the story more interesting, doesn't it! ;D

If you love Pride and Prejudice variations, I think you’ll enjoy Only a Heartbeat Away: Pride and Prejudice Novella!

What am I currently reading?  I am reading Echoes of Pemberley by Cynthia Ingram Hensley. I am really enjoying it. It's a modern Austen inspired story about the descendants of Fitzwilliam and Elizabeth Darcy.

What did I recently finish reading?
I took the weekend off from reading to do some sewing. I'm was working on the Short Stays for the Regency gown I'm going to make. But before that I did  a re-read of Easy by Tammara Webber. Yes, you heard me right. As soon as I finished it the first time, I started it all over again! I wasn't ready to leave the world of Jacqueline and Lucas. I loved it and will read it again soon! :)

What do I think I'll be reading next? I plan on reading The Viscount's Vow by Collette Cameron. I'm definitely looking forward to this! I loved Collette's first book, Highlander's Hope, here's my review.

Dancing with Paris by Juliette Sobanet ~ My review

Dancing with Paris by Juliette Sobanet

Publication Date: July 16th 2013
Publisher: Montlake Romance
Paperback: 393 pages
Received: e-copy from the publisher
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

In Paris, a past life promises a second chance at love.

Dancing with Paris is a fantastic story! I really enjoyed reading it! It’s a time-travel, mystery romance!

Claudia is given an unique opportunity to right a wrong done in a past life that will change things for the better in her present life when she wakes up in the body of Ruby Kerrigan. Ruby is a singer and dancer in a popular nightclub in Paris, the year 1959. With a silver haired “fairy-godmother” of sorts to give a little (very little) advice, Claudia has to figure out what the event she is there to change. It’s not an easy task to figure out because Ruby is a suspect in a murder investigation. To make matters worse, Claudia only has bits of Ruby's memories to help her out. She must navigate through Ruby’s life and try to make the right decision ... hopefully, she can make life better for herself and everyone involved.

Claudia is desperate to get back to 2012 where she is pregnant with a baby girl, but while in 1959, she meets Antoine Richard and falls in love with him. I found this really interesting because I couldn’t figure out how she would keep her baby in the future and keep her love in the past. (I’m one of those people who when you’re watching a movie and the characters leave a candle burning in a room after they’ve left - I worry about it. The same applied here - I kept worrying about what was going to happen to the baby!) Well done!

I love that Ruby is friends with Claudia’s grandmother in the past. Claudia gets to know  what her grandmother was like when she was in her twenties! So cool! Especially, because she is very close to her grandmother in 2012.

Dancing with Paris is a unique story! I loved it! This is Juliette Sobanet’s fourth novel. She writes about what she loves most, Paris! I highly recommend reading it!

From This Day Forward ~ The Darcys of Pemberley By Joana Starnes

From This Day Forward by Joana Starnes

Publication Date: May 3th, 2013
Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform
Paperback: 374 pages
Received: received an e-copy from author
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

From This Day Forward ~ The Darcys of Pemberley is a sequel to Pride and Prejudice. The beginning seems to be about Elizabeth and Darcy, and the second half seems to be more about Georgiana. Which is fine, I just didn’t realize that when I began reading it.

The story takes us through the first few years of Darcy and Elizabeth’s marriage. It is a time for Georgiana and Elizabeth to get to know each other. Elizabeth also gets to know a host of distant relatives that are not in the original story. We see Elizabeth learning her duties as mistress. Elizabeth has her presentation and her first season in town.

Around the second half of the story, The next season is Georgiana’s coming out, with balls and suitors, it is a busy and overwhelming time for Georgiana.  This is where Georgiana begins to grow and mature. She learns Darcy is not as perfect as she thinks he is. She learns to trust her judgement about the gentlemen she meets. I loved listening to her thoughts as she reflects back and compares Wickham’s words to the words of other possible suitors. She sorts through her confusions and fears to become a beautiful, confident and happy woman!

Lady Catherine also comes to town for Georgiana’s coming out. She has still not forgiven Darcy for marrying Elizabeth, but she feels the need to have her say in Georgiana’s preparations - to make sure Mrs. Darcy is handling all aspects of it correctly.

I had a really hard time getting into this story. To be fair, it might have been that I was really busy, but the story never engaged me. I felt as if the story were being told to me.  I didn’t live it.

From This Day Forward is a wonderful story if you want to spend more time with the Darcys. I really did love seeing Georgiana become a confident woman.

Book Description:

Does being in a relationship make you a hot commodity in the eyes of would-be suitors?

Chloe Lane is about to find out. When her childhood pal, Ethan Webster, asks her to play the part of his girlfriend in order to test this theory, she reluctantly agrees. As a work-crazed fashion designer, boutique owner and soon-to-be reality show judge, Chloe has no time for a real boyfriend, but being part of a faux pair will do just fine. Not that she has any intention of trying to attract someone else.

However…

Opportunity unexpectedly knocks when Chloe meets fellow reality judge, William Shannon. Super successful and super sexy, this high-powered entrepreneur inspires Chloe to test Ethan’s theory herself. Now, on top of keeping her fashion business productive, carving out a new role as a television personality, maintaining a fake relationship and attempting to lay the groundwork for a future relationship, she’s lying to William, lying to her friends, lying to her family and quite possibly lying to herself. Will Chloe be able to keep it all together, or are things about to explode?

About the Author:

Born and raised in the Midwest, Anna Garner's adventurous spirit kicked in after graduating from high school, and she's since lived in Boston, NYC and London. For several years, Anna worked in fashion--first as a journalist and then as a shopkeeper, and for a while she dabbled in design. Although chick lit was her first love, Anna started writing quirky romances, and her first one, Fashioning a Romance, was published in May 2012 under the name of Libby Mercer. This was followed by two more quirky romances: Unmasking Maya and The Karmic Connection. Since Lying to Meet You is written in old school chick lit style and isn't a clear cut love story, Anna decided to publish it under her real name. She currently lives in San Francisco and spends most of her time cranking out more stories.
