A Tale of Pride, Prejudice and Persuasion
What would happen if.... After Darcy’s proposal to Elizabeth in Hunsford, Darcy meets Anne Elliot and proposes to her! (Instant angst! - for me anyway) Anne brings comfort to Darcy in her gentle ways, and she is good for Georgiana, helping to coaxed her out of her shell. Anne has suffered her own broken heart, and Darcy figures since he can’t have Elizabeth he can bring some comfort to Anne’s life. Together they decide a quiet life together would be beneficial to both of them.
There are plenty of anxious moments in this story when Darcy is thrown into Elizabeth’s company again. Soon he discovers her feelings have changed toward him, but as he is engaged to Anne he cannot pursue her now! He is quite tormented about it, but he is a man of honor.
I thought it was fun having Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth in this story! I especially liked Captain Wentworth! Darcy is not happy with Wentworth being around, not when the Captain appears to be courting Elizabeth! But they set aside those differences when Wickham and Lydia elope, and work together to go after Wickham. (I really enjoyed that!!)
My one complaint is that I would have like to see more interaction between Darcy and Elizabeth. I missed the bantering that Darcy and Elizabeth are known for. Elizabeth was always so subdued when they were together. So much so, Georgiana thought Elizabeth was shy.
All-in-all I really enjoyed The Subsequent Proposal! And no worries, Darcy and Elizabeth do have their happily ever after! I would recommend this to any Jane Austen retelling fan!
Disclaimer: I was given a paperback copy of the book for my honest review.

ReplyDeleteHi Arjanne, Thanks for stopping by! Good luck in the giveaway!
DeleteThanks Arjanne and good luck!
DeleteI think that this is a good idea but above all I love that no matter what Darcy and Elizabeth can have their happy ending!
ReplyDeleteHI Loren, I couldn't agree with you more! It's a must in my opinion! :) Good luck in the giveaway!
DeleteHi, Loren! This is one of the things that I love best about fanfiction: that no matter how ugly it starts and how much worse it gets, Elizabeth and Darcy get their happy-ever-after and all is well in their world :)
DeleteI am interested in this mixer of Pride and Perjudice and Persuasion. I would like to read it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for opportunity!!
Hi Warmisunqu Austen! I hope you get to read it soon! Good luck in the giveaway!
DeleteThanks for popping by and for your interest! Best of luck!
DeleteAs much as I like Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion, I would love the couples to stick to the person they are meant for each other. Luckily Elizabeth and Darcy do get together in the end or I may never give this novel a chance.
ReplyDeleteHi Sylvia! I agree, I would not have read this if Darcy and Elizabeth didn't end up together! Good luck in the giveaway!
DeleteHi, Sylvia!
DeleteI'm with you completely, I think having them end up with anyone other than their soul-mates would be just too depressing! I can promise, hand on heart, never to write anything as horrible as that, it defies the very purpose of fan-fiction!!
I think I started writing this simply because I don't like Louisa Musgrove, and I always thought Capt Wentworth should have better taste! From here, it was only a step to figure out that Anne Elliot is very similar to Darcy, but don't worry, not for a second do they imagine they are each other's soul-mates, just shoulders to lean on. Hope you won't be disappointed by the storyline if you win!
Darcy and Wentworth in the same novel , wonderful, as long as the right people get each other in the end

Hi Vesper! I loved that Darcy and Wentworth were in the same novel! I love them both so much! ;) Good luck in the giveaway!
DeleteIn the same novel and glowering at each other too - most of the time :) - and yes, they do end up where they should!
DeleteGood luck!
Love the idea of bringing in characters from another Austen novel to this Darcy/Elizabeth re-imagining.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you do! Thanks for popping by and good luck with the giveaway!
DeleteThis is a great idea for a story. Are Elizabeth's feelings still changed by Darcy's letter?
ReplyDeleteYes, Elizabeth's feelings are changed by Darcy's letter, and poor Darcy cannot do anything about it because of Anne! Thanks for stopping by! Good luck in the giveaway!
DeleteYes, very much so, but not many people know it, other than herself and Jane :)
DeleteAs for Darcy, he's got his hands tied and he doesn't have a clue as to what Elizabeth is actually feeling, because their interactions are very much at the stage they were (in the original P&P) around the time when Darcy and Bingley came back to Longbourn. There's a lot of staring and blusing, but not a lot coming out in the open, until [mini-spoiler???]
Bingley becomes rather more informed and, in true Bingley fashion, talks a bit too much and lets a few kittens out of a few bags, along with a big fat tiger :)
Thanks for visiting, and best of luck!
This one's definitely on my to-read list even if it is angsty at first. I think I've only read 1 story where D&E and F&A cross paths, but that was after they were already married.
ReplyDeleteHi Monica! I hope you get to read it soon! Hmmm... I was trying to think if I have ever read any stories where they cross paths, but I can't think of any at the moment. Good luck on the giveaway! :)
DeleteThanks, Monica! Hope you'll like it, angst and all :)
DeleteThanks so much for popping by and good luck!
The one I was referring to was one of Carrie Bebris' s Mr & Mr Darcy Mystery series, probably The Deception at Lyme.
ReplyDeleteOoops! Missed that one - I'll keep an eye out!
DeleteIt was fantastic to discover that Jane Austen two couple I love the most are in this book toghether. *_*
ReplyDeleteHi Mena! I agree! It's a great idea, putting them together! Thanks for stopping by! Good luck with the giveaway!
DeleteHi! Thanks for visiting and commenting! Hope you'll like the story :)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck!
Combining my two favorite Austen novels? Very intriguing! I will have to check this out. Thank you for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteHi, Becky! So many of us have Persuasion as a second favourite! Hope you'll like what I've done :) Best of luck with the giveaway and thanks for visiting!
DeleteCongrats Joana on your second book. I have already enjoyed From This Day Forward and cannot wait to read this book. I love the premise of this story and cannot wait to see how it works out. Persuasion is my favorite Austen book after Pride and Prejudice, just like so many others.
ReplyDeleteThanks Candy for th lovely review!!
Liz
Hi, Liz! Thanks so much for letting me know you enjoyed 'From This Day Forward'!!
DeleteHope you'll enjoy this one too, even though it's rather different (less history - rather more drama).
I always thought there are several Austen characters that are just meant to get on, like Mrs Bennet and Mrs Jennings, Anne Elliot and Georgiana, Elizabeth and Elinor and maybe even Darcy and Capt. Wentworth - unless they find themselves caught in a love quadrangle of sorts :)
Good luck with the giveaway and thanks for visiting!
Hi Liz! I hope you enjoy this book too! I really liked the interactions of the characters from the different stories. Not so fond of Darcy and Anne being engaged! But, of course, I wouldn't like ANYBODY capturing the attention of Darcy other than Elizabeth! ;) I think we all feel the same here. lol! Thanks for liking the review! Good luck with the giveaway!
DeleteThe story looks very interesting! I did wonder what happened to her. as all of the characters, I am always curious as to what happens next!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
