Last Saturday I had a great time at the LA Festival of Books!
Karen Cox, Julie Cooper, Lucy Parker, Gail McEwen, Michele Reed |
I met these lovely ladies at the Meryton Press booth! I had a wonderful time hanging out with them.
At the JASNA-SW booth, I met Syrie James!
Me and Syrie James |
I got quite a few books...
My haul from various booths! |
...a Pride and Prejudice shirt (it blends in with my couch, so you can barely see it) and a Mr. Darcy mouse pad drawn by Janet Taylor.
My bag was pretty heavy carrying it back to my car. I think next year I'll bring a backpack and my messenger bag! It was pretty hot, so maybe I'll wear something a wee bit cooler.
This was my first year at the LA Festival of Books, and if I can, I will be back next year!

Thanks a lot for the giveaway. I would really like to read Rainy Days by Lory Lilian.
ReplyDeleteOoh, good choice! Rainy Days is one of my favorite books! Good luck!
DeleteThanks! I would love to win Bluebells in the mourning by KaraLynne Mackrory.
ReplyDeletearjanne.boneschanscher (at) gmail (dot) com
Yes! I'm looking forward to reading that one myself! I think it will be released soon! Make sure to enter the Rafflecopter! Good luck!
DeleteSo sorry I missed it! I can't wait to read your reviews of "Echoes of Pemberly" and "The Missing JA Manuscript!" I've been eyeing those books at B&N.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!!
Hi Jamie! It would have been great to meet you there too! :) My TBR pile is so large, I'm not sure when I'll get to them! I wish I had more time to read!! lol! :D
DeleteGood luck in the giveaway! Maybe you'll win a copy of "Echoes of Pemberley"! :)
Thanks for the giveaway - I'm not sure I would know what book to pick - possibly Falling for Mr Darcy
ReplyDelete"Falling for Mr. Darcy" is a good choice, too! There are so many great Meryton Press books to choose from! Good luck!
DeleteI am so jealous that you met some of my favorite authors. How fun! I think my bag would be dragging the ground. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway opportunity.
No doubt! Maybe a wagon to load everything into, but I think Monica has the right idea - hire a handsome footman to carry all those new books!! lol!
DeleteGood luck!
I'm so envious of you, Candy, getting to go to the book festival and meeting lovely folks! I think I'd have to hire a (handsome) footman to carry around all my purchases and swag! So many AMAZING Meryton Press books to choose from for the giveaway! I'm having trouble finding blurbs for some of the upcoming books (I'll have to do more research ;) but I've been looking forward to Bluebells in the Mourning.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun! I love meeting all my online friends! I totally like your idea about the handsome footman! Brilliant! I'm looking forward to Bluebells in the Mourning too!
DeleteGood luck!
It looks like you had a fabulous time. I would love to meet all you lovely ladies!:)
ReplyDeleteI think the book I would choose would be Rainy Days by Lory Lilian. I have heard wonderful things about it. There are a few new books coming out from Meryton Press that I am excited to read though!!
I did have a good time! Good book choice! One of my favorites! Good luck!
DeleteI wish I can meet up with Austenesque authors but I'm staying overseas. If I do get the chance, I'll visit next time. It's hard to choose just one book but I'll go for A Most Civil Proposal by Mr Odom since I've read great reviews.
ReplyDeleteThere are some fantastic Austenesque authors overseas that I would love to meet!
Delete"A Most Civil Proposal" is an excellent choice! You're right though, it's hard to choose!
Hi Candy!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying again from the desktop this time. Loved reading this, sounds like you had a wonderful time and what a collection you amassed. :D
My favourite Meryton Press author is Jan Hahn, but as I have her books already, my choice would be one of Lory Lilian's. I am off to try the raffle copter!!
Cassie
Hi Cassandra! I hope you got through on the Rafflecopter, I can't tell. I may have to rethink using it.
DeleteOoh, I love Jan Hahn's books! My favorite book of Lory Lilialn's is "Rainy Days"!
So glad you had a wonderful time, Candy! I agree with Monica about hiring a handsome footman! ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha! Monica always comes up with some great ideas for sure! It's too bad the AGM and the Decatur Book Festival is the same month (or close to the same). I can't do both. :(
DeleteI had a look at the books they do, such a lovely choice! I really enjoyed An Arranged Marriage by Jan Hahn and I haven't read The Journey so I'd plump for that one... but there are others I'd love to read too, and so many nice new ones on the way.
ReplyDeleteHi Ceri! I know, so many fabulous choices! I'm looking forward to the new ones coming out, too! Good luck!
DeleteThanks for sharing your swag from the festival. An Arranged Marriage sounds like an interesting take on P&P.
ReplyDeleteHi Raquel! It was fun! I'm new in town and it was nice to see a few online friends in person!
DeleteCandy, it was wonderful to meet you at the L.A. TImes Book Festival! I'm honored that you bought two of my books. I hope you enjoy reading them and that you'll consider posting a review. I'd love to be entered into the contest, as I am writing a new Jane Austen novel at present, and I can never have enough books to read! Find me at www.syriejames.com.
ReplyDeleteHi Syrie! It was fantastic to meet you too! Of course, I'll post a review! I'm just not sure when I'll get to it! I so wish I had more reading time, and I was faster at writing reviews!! Haha! I'm not asking for much, am I?
DeleteI can't wait to hear about your new novel! I'm so happy it's a Jane Austen!! Yay!
Hi Candy :) It was great to finally meet you in person last weekend at the LA Festival of Books! Sounds like you brought home plenty of great new books to read. Thanks for all you do to support 'all things Austen' and good luck in your new town.
ReplyDeleteHi Karen! It was wonderful to meet you too! I did bring quite a few books home. I'm looking forward to reading them! It's my pleasure! I love "all things Austen"! Thanks to all of you writers that create such wonderful stories! :)
DeleteHi Candy. Sounds like you had a great time! I know it was fun meeting so many authors. I think the MP book I would choose is A Most Civil Proposal by CP Odom. I have many of the MP books but have not purchased that one yet.
ReplyDeleteI like your mouse pad! :)
I loved the t-shirt, Candy. Do you know if there is any way of finding it online? I would love one of those for two reasons, PnP and the peacock! I will never own the book with the peacock cover so next best thing would be a t-shirt!
DeleteHi Janet! Yes, the label of the one I bought at the LA Festival of Books is "Out of Print" here's the web page. It is expensive and that's what I paid at the Festival, but I figured that's what I'd pay for a shirt at Disneyland, and I like this one better!! ;)

BTW, are you working on any Matthew Macfadyen pictures? He's my Mr. Darcy, and I would love a mouse pad of him!
I have not started the MM Darcy pics yet but I am going to be doing one soon. I plan to do several and at least one with KK and MM together. I will let you know when I have them done. They will be on the 2014 calendar and I will make mousepads and all other items with them too.
DeleteThanks for the info on the t-shirt! I will look up the website. The shirt looks so pretty! I have peacocks visit me regularly so that is another reason I love them so. They are often my house top adornment with their tail feathers spread...of course only one adult male at a time though. :)
Fantastic! You are an amazing artist!
DeleteOh Wow! How beautiful the peacocks must be! A lovely house decoration, but I noisy one I imagine! ;)
