Fun times at the LA Festival of Books + GIVEAWAY!

Last Saturday I had a great time at the LA Festival of Books!

Karen Cox,  Julie Cooper,  Lucy Parker,  Gail McEwen,  Michele Reed

I met these lovely ladies at the Meryton Press booth! I had a wonderful time hanging out with them.

At the JASNA-SW booth, I met Syrie James

Me and Syrie James

I got quite a few books...

My haul from various booths!

...a Pride and Prejudice shirt (it blends in with my couch, so you can barely see it) and a Mr. Darcy mouse pad drawn by Janet Taylor.

My bag was pretty heavy carrying it back to my car. I think next year I'll bring a backpack and my messenger bag! It was pretty hot, so maybe I'll wear something a wee bit cooler.

This was my first year at the LA Festival of Books, and if I can, I will be back next year!

  6. I'm so envious of you, Candy, getting to go to the book festival and meeting lovely folks! I think I'd have to hire a (handsome) footman to carry around all my purchases and swag! So many AMAZING Meryton Press books to choose from for the giveaway! I'm having trouble finding blurbs for some of the upcoming books (I'll have to do more research ;) but I've been looking forward to Bluebells in the Mourning.

  8. I wish I can meet up with Austenesque authors but I'm staying overseas. If I do get the chance, I'll visit next time. It's hard to choose just one book but I'll go for A Most Civil Proposal by Mr Odom since I've read great reviews.

"A Most Civil Proposal" is an excellent choice! You're right though, it's hard to choose!

  9. Hi Candy!

I'm trying again from the desktop this time. Loved reading this, sounds like you had a wonderful time and what a collection you amassed. :D

My favourite Meryton Press author is Jan Hahn, but as I have her books already, my choice would be one of Lory Lilian's. I am off to try the raffle copter!!

    1. Haha! Monica always comes up with some great ideas for sure! It's too bad the AGM and the Decatur Book Festival is the same month (or close to the same). I can't do both. :(

  11. I had a look at the books they do, such a lovely choice! I really enjoyed An Arranged Marriage by Jan Hahn and I haven't read The Journey so I'd plump for that one... but there are others I'd love to read too, and so many nice new ones on the way.

  13. Candy, it was wonderful to meet you at the L.A. TImes Book Festival! I'm honored that you bought two of my books. I hope you enjoy reading them and that you'll consider posting a review. I'd love to be entered into the contest, as I am writing a new Jane Austen novel at present, and I can never have enough books to read! Find me at www.syriejames.com.

    1. Hi Syrie! It was fantastic to meet you too! Of course, I'll post a review! I'm just not sure when I'll get to it! I so wish I had more reading time, and I was faster at writing reviews!! Haha! I'm not asking for much, am I?

I can't wait to hear about your new novel! I'm so happy it's a Jane Austen!! Yay!

  15. Hi Candy. Sounds like you had a great time! I know it was fun meeting so many authors. I think the MP book I would choose is A Most Civil Proposal by CP Odom. I have many of the MP books but have not purchased that one yet.

I like your mouse pad! :)

    1. I loved the t-shirt, Candy. Do you know if there is any way of finding it online? I would love one of those for two reasons, PnP and the peacock! I will never own the book with the peacock cover so next best thing would be a t-shirt!

    2. Hi Janet! Yes, the label of the one I bought at the LA Festival of Books is "Out of Print" here's the web page. It is expensive and that's what I paid at the Festival, but I figured that's what I'd pay for a shirt at Disneyland, and I like this one better!! ;)

BTW, are you working on any Matthew Macfadyen pictures? He's my Mr. Darcy, and I would love a mouse pad of him!

    3. I have not started the MM Darcy pics yet but I am going to be doing one soon. I plan to do several and at least one with KK and MM together. I will let you know when I have them done. They will be on the 2014 calendar and I will make mousepads and all other items with them too.

Thanks for the info on the t-shirt! I will look up the website. The shirt looks so pretty! I have peacocks visit me regularly so that is another reason I love them so. They are often my house top adornment with their tail feathers spread...of course only one adult male at a time though. :)

    4. Fantastic! You are an amazing artist!

Oh Wow! How beautiful the peacocks must be! A lovely house decoration, but I noisy one I imagine! ;)
